TL;DR: The present in vivo and in silico studies revealed neuropharmacological features of G. tetrandra leaf extract as a natural agent against neurological disorders, especially Alzheimer’s disease.
Abstract: Medicinal plants possess a surplus of novel and biologically active secondary metabolites that are responsible for counteracting diseases. Traditionally, Gomphandra tetrandra (Wall.) Sleumer is used to treat mental disorders. The present research was designed to explore phytochemicals from the ethanol leaf extract of Gomphandra tetrandra (Wall.) Sleumer to identify the potential pharmacophore(s) in the treatment of neurological disorders. The chemical compounds of the experimental plant were identified through GC-MS analysis. In-vitro antioxidant activity was assessed using different methods. Furthermore, in-vivo neurological activity was assessed in Swiss-albino mice. Computer-aided analysis was appraised to determine the best-fit phytoconstituent of a total of fifteen identified compounds in the experimental plant extract against beta-amyloid precursor protein. The experimental extract revealed fifteen compounds in GC-MS analysis and the highest content was 9, 12, 15-octadecatrienoic acid (z,z,z). The extract showed potent antioxidant activity in in-vitro assays. Furthermore, in in-vivo neurological assays, the extract disclosed significant (p < 0.05) neurological activity. The most favorable phytochemicals as neurological agents were selected via ADMET profiling, and molecular docking was studied with beta-amyloid precursor protein. In the computer-aided study, 1, 5-diphenyl-2h-1, 2, 4-triazoline-3-thione (Pub Chem CID: 2802516) was more active than other identified compounds with strong binding affinity to beta-amyloid precursor protein. The present in vivo and in silico studies revealed neuropharmacological features of G. tetrandra leaf extract as a natural agent against neurological disorders, especially Alzheimer’s disease.

TL;DR: Evaluation of risks considering the degree of uncertainty involved in individual risk events may assist project manager in setting-up response strategies to mitigate threat to the project objectives.
Abstract: In this paper, a methodology for construction projects risk assessment under epistemic uncertainty (i.e., uncertainty arising from lack of data/knowledge) has been proposed. In practice, as the sufficient data from historical sources for probabilistic analysis are quite difficult to obtain, qualitative risk assessment methodologies based on expert’s judgments are commonly used in construction industry. However, these insufficient probabilistic data combined with experts’ judgments can be used in the risks evaluation process to reduce uncertainties and biasness. All the methodologies developed so far have assumed that the degrees of uncertainties (i.e., levels of uncertainties) involved in individual risk event are equal. However, in practice, the degree of uncertainties that involved in each risk event may vary due to the variation in the availability or quality of data obtained from multiple sources (e.g., from experts’ opinions and past data from similar projects). Therefore, evaluation of risks considering the degree of uncertainty involved in individual risk events may assist project manager in setting-up response strategies to mitigate threat to the project objectives. This paper proposes a risk assessment methodology using triangular fuzzy numbering system to compute risk value by combining expert’s opinion and insufficient historical data. A modified form of general ramp-type fuzzy membership function for quantification of uncertainty range of each risk event and an extended VIKOR method for risk ranking with these uncertainty ranges have been used. The most notable difference with other fuzzy risk assessment methods is the use of algorithm to handle the uncertainties involved in individual risk event. The proposed risk assessment methodology is illustrated for two practical example problems: (1) a steel-frame structured building and (2) a rehabilitation project of a building.

TL;DR: A density functional study with a GGA-PBE exchange-correlation scheme has been carried out to predict the structural, elastic, and electronic properties of the newly discovered lithium silicide superconductor, Li2PtSi3, for the first time.
Abstract: A density functional study with a GGA-PBE exchange-correlation scheme has been carried out to predict the structural, elastic, and electronic properties of the newly discovered lithium silicide superconductor, Li2PtSi3, for the first time. All the theoretical results are compared with those found recently for isostructural Li2IrSi3. This study sheds light on the important effect of replacement of the transition metal element Ir with Pt, on different mechanical, electronic, and superconducting properties. The role of spin–orbit coupling on the electronic band structure is found to be insignificant for Li2PtSi3. The difference in superconducting transition temperatures of Li2PtSi3 and Li2IrSi3 arises primarily due to the difference in electronic energy density of states at the Fermi level. Somewhat reduced Debye temperature in Li2PtSi3 plays a minor role. We have discussed the implications of the theoretical findings in details in this paper.

TL;DR: 1mg/L of methylene blue is the best disinfectant for C. carpio fertilized egg treatment, according to the hatching rate of fertilized eggs and survival rate of larvae.
Abstract: Common carp ( Cyprinus carpio ) is one of the commercially important and commonly cultured fish. In the hatchery intensive incubation leads to microbial overgrowth in C. carpio eggs that hamper egg development, hatchability and larval survivability. The aim of this study is to find out causes of mass mortality in C. carpio eggs during peak- breeding season between March to May 2015 at Mafatema fish hatchery, Chanchra, Jessore sadar upazilla. In the present study three disinfectants with three different concentrations in each such as methylene blue 1, 3 and 5mg/L., malachite green 1, 3 and 5mg/L., sodium chloride 1, 2 and 3g/L were used to observe the hatching rate of fertilized eggs and survival rate of larvae. Bacterial load of culture water was examined during the induced breeding of C. carpio with mycological examination of egg samples with different disinfectants. The total bacterial count fluctuated from 3.4 x 10 8 CFU/ml to 32.7 x 10 8 CFU/ml during the period of fertilization to 4days of hatching. The fertilized eggs infected by Saprolegnia spp. were appeared as tuft hairy like balls with a white cottony envelop. Among all the treatment 1mg/L methylene blue, 3mg/L malachite green and 1g/L sodium chloride showed significantly better ( P<0.05 ) hatching rate 95·33±2·08, 88.00±2.64 and 92.33±4.04% respectively. The same concentration of methylene blue, malachite green and sodium chloride showed significantly better ( P<0.05 ) better survival rate 95·00±4.35, 75.00±3.00 and 87.00±6.24% respectively. Finally among all the treatment 1mg/L of methylene blue showed significantly better ( P<0.05 ) hatching and survival rate 95·33±2·08% and 95·00±4.35 % respectively. So 1mg/L of methylene blue is the best disinfectant for C. carpio fertilized egg treatment. Asian J. Med. Biol. Res. December 2015, 1(3): 578-588
