Abstract: Surface-active ionic liquids (SAILs) are receiving growing interest as environmentally friendly designer surfactants for various applications, including drug formulation and delivery. The use of SAILs in the pharmaceutical industry has the potential to address the challenges associated with conventional surfactants. The tunable formation of complementary ion pairs from a diverse range of ions enables the task-specific optimization of SAILs. SAILs comprising second and third-generation cations and anions have been used to design biocompatible self-assembled systems including micelles, microemulsions, vesicles, liposomes, and nanoparticles for drug delivery carriers. Compared with conventional surfactant-based carriers, SAIL-based systems offer better pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties. This mini-review highlights recent findings on the formation of ionic liquid-based self-assembled systems and their potential applications in drug delivery.

Abstract: In this work, we have successfully synthesized core-shell structured Au-PDA@SiO2 nanospheres and decorated on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) modified glassy carbon electrode for the electrochemical detection of cefotaxime. The one-pot hydrothermal method was used to synthesis core-shell nanostructures by loading Au nanoparticles on polydopamine (PDA) coated SiO2 nanospheres. The as-prepared Au-PDA@SiO2 nanospheres were used to fabricate electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (rGO) modified glassy carbon electrode (Au-PDA@SiO2/rGO/GCE) for electrochemical determination of cefotaxime. Scanning electron microscopy, powder x-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy were used to confirm the structure and morphology of the as-prepared nanospheres. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were performed for electrochemical characterizations different modified electrodes. It was revealed that the nanocomposite modified electrodes exhibited excellent electrochemical performances for electrooxidation of target analytes and could achieve ultra-sensitive detections. A linear relationship was observed between peak currents and concentrations in the ranges of 1.0 × 10−9 to 5.0 × 10−8 M (R2 = 0.9877), and 1.0 × 10−7 to 5.0 × 10−6 M (R2 = 0.9821) for cefotaxime with a detection limit (S/N = 3) of 1.0 × 10−10 M. It can be deduced that the proposed sensor is suitable for the sensitive detection of cefotaxime in pharmaceutical samples.

Abstract: Energy efficiency of buildings is attracting significant attention from the research community as the world is moving towards sustainable buildings design. With fast increasing energy consumption attributed to residential buildings in Bangladesh, there is a need to concentrate on construction and design of building in order to improve the energy performance of buildings. This paper provides some guidelines to minimize the building energy use choosing best window glazing types of residential buildings in Bangladesh. External shading influences the solar energy on a window and the transmitted energy within the room through the window. In the present study using EnergyPlus software, advanced glazing and shading on the solar energy transmitted into or lost from the room through the fenestration areas have been evaluated for usual residential buildings in Jessore, Bangladesh. Abstract: In this present study, antioxidant, anti-hemolytic, cytotoxic and anti-bacterial activities derived from methanol extracts of Bruguiera gymnorrhiza and Heritiera littoralis were investigated in order to determine their medicinal activities. Folin-Ciocalteu reagent method and aluminum chloride methods were used to determine the mangroves’ total phenolics and total flavonoid content, respectively. Antioxidant capacity was assessed via the following methods: 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydroxyl (DPPH), 43 mM H2O2, Fe2+ quenching assay, and anti-hemolytic activity. Brine shrimp (Artemia salina L.) lethality assay was also carried out to determine the cytotoxic potential of the mangroves along with anti-bacterial activity test using five Gram-negative and another two Gram-positive bacterial strains. The mangroves yielded 58.917 ± 0.601 and 36.625 ± 0.551 mg Gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/g sample and 76.417 ± 0.19 and 113.637 ± 0.17 mg quercetin equivalent (QE)/g sample in B. gymnorrhiza and H. littoralis, respectively. Methanol extracts of both mangroves exhibited high radical scavenging activity against DPPH, H2O2 and Fe2+ radicals. The reductive capacity of the extracts increased with increasing concentrations of samples, and the extracts inhibited H2O2 induced hemolysis in human red blood cells (RBCs). Antioxidant properties were found to be moderately weaker than that of the reference standard, L-ascorbic acid (AA), and Gallic acid (GA). Further, brine shrimp (Artemia salina L.) lethality assay revealed significant cytotoxicity (241.4 and 272.6 μg/mL, respectively). Methanol extracts could also inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacterial strains. This study showed that the crude methanol extract of selected mangrove plants possesses free radical scavenging, anti-hemolytic, cytotoxic and anti-bacterial activity. The experimented plant has the potential to be used as a traditional medicine and replace synthetic drugs. Further studies are necessary to isolate active compounds responsible for the overall antioxidant activity of the crude extracts.
