TL;DR: In this article, a hybrid approach of combining Taguchi method, principal component analysis and fuzzy logic for the tolerance design of a dual-purpose six-bar mechanism is proposed, where the principal components of the S/N ratios are transformed via fuzzy logic reasoning into a multiple performance index (MPI) for further analysis of the effect of each control factors on the quality of the mechanism.
Abstract: A hybrid approach of combining Taguchi method, principal component analysis and fuzzy logic for the tolerance design of a dual-purpose six-bar mechanism is proposed. The approach is to firstly use the Taguchi orthogonal array to carry out experiments for calculating the S/N ratios of the positional errors to the angular error of the dual-purpose six-bar mechanism. The principal component analysis is then applied to determine the principal components of the S/N ratios, which are transformed via fuzzy logic reasoning into a multiple performance index (MPI) for further analysis of the effect of each control factors on the quality of the mechanism. Through the analysis of response table and diagram, key dimensional tolerances can be classified, which allows the decision of either to tighten the key tolerances to improve mechanism quality or to relax the tolerance of non-key dimensions to reduce manufacturing costs to be made.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used Ni electrodes formed with Brij 56 as a template and found that higher roughness factors correlated with higher sensitivity for alcohol sensing, but needed longer times to remove the template from the Ni film.
Abstract: Mesoporous nickel electrodes have been shown to be excellent amperometric sensors for alcohol detection over a wide-range of concentrations. At a higher electrolyte concentrations (NaOH, 4 M), the electrodes exhibited a remarkably higher sensitivity (1072.7 μA mM−1 cm−2) than conventional nickel based electrodes, within an alcohol concentration range 0.5–3 M. Additionally, electrodeposited Ni electrodes formed with Brij 56 as a template, have significantly higher roughness than similar electrodes made without template. Higher roughness factors correlated with higher sensitivities for alcohol sensing, but needed longer times to remove the template from the Ni film.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used micro-data from Taipei, Taiwan, to determine which approach is most appropriate for studying housing mobility decisions, and compared the mobility decisions of nuclear and different types of extended family household.
Abstract: Summary. Models of the allocation of household resources use as a decision rule either the maximisation of a household utility function or the solution to a Nash-bargaining game. The literature on residential mobility has exclusively used the former to analyse the household’s decision to change location. This is despite the strong empirical evidence that allocations in other areas are more consistent with the bargaining model. In this paper micro-data from Taipei, Taiwan, are used to determine which approach is most appropriate for studying housing mobility decisions. The mobility decisions of nuclear and different types of extended family household are compared to test whether the social and economic roles of different generations affect the household decision process, as is consistent with the bargaining approach. Thus, household mobility is analysed with a richer description of household structure than is found in the current literature, which implicitly treats households as either a nuclear family or some smaller unit. The results support the bargaining model of household decision-making. Conditional probabilities differ between nuclear and extended families, when a member of the eldest generation in an extended household is the household head, and when a member of the eldest generation contributes to household earnings. Of these, it is found that economic status is paramount to social status.

TL;DR: In this article, the wear properties of various alumina/tungsten carbide based nanocomposites have been investigated by performing ball-on-disk type wear test at room temperature under ambient environment.
Abstract: Various alumina/tungsten carbide based nanocomposites have been fabricated by spark plasma sintering and their wear properties have been investigated by performing ball-on-disk type wear test at room temperature under ambient environment Our results reveal that the main facture behavior of the Al 2 O 3 /tungsten carbide composites sliding against Al 2 O 3 balls is the plastic deformation Crack formation and grain pull-out in the wear processes are responsible for lowering the wear rate The Vickers hardness and toughness values are directly related to wear behavior of the composites that grounds Al 2 O 3 /WC to show lower wear rate on smoothly worn surface

TL;DR: In this paper, three schemes of detecting radicals were employed, including Fricke measurement, hydrogen peroxide indirect measurement, and 4-chlorobenzoic acid probe measurement.
Abstract: Advanced oxidation processes have drawn much attention in their application to wastewater treatment recently. However, it is seldom to utilize sonochemical degradation as the tool of environmental remediation. This study utilized 20 kHz ultrasonic irradiation as the mechanism of radical production. The production rate of radicals serves as the evaluation tool of sonolysis efficiency under the control of different pHs. Three schemes of detecting radicals were employed, including Fricke measurement, hydrogen peroxide indirect measurement, and 4-chlorobenzoic acid probe measurement. The experimental results were confirmed through different measurement methods. The threshold of ultrasonic intensity was also examined to form radicals under the acidic, neutral, or basic surroundings.
