TL;DR: This work reports real-time, high-throughput detection and sizing of individual, low-index polystyrene nanoparticles and H1N1 virus and demonstrates nanoparticle detection and size characterization down to 70 nm in diameter.
Abstract: Rapid, chip-scale, and cost-effective single particle detection of biological agents is of great importance to human health and national security. We report real-time, high-throughput detection and sizing of individual, low-index polystyrene nanoparticles and H1N1 virus. Our widefield, common path interferometer detects nanoparticles and viruses over a very large sensing area, orders of magnitude larger than competing techniques. We demonstrate nanoparticle detection and sizing down to 70 nm in diameter. We clearly size discriminate nanoparticles with diameters of 70, 100, 150, and 200 nm. We also demonstrate detection and size characterization of hundreds of individual H1N1 viruses in a single experiment.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a comparison between the cost-effectiveness analysis currently used for aviation environmental policy decision-making and an illustrative cost-benefit analysis, and show that different conclusions may be drawn about the same policy options depending on whether benefits and interdependencies are estimated in terms of health and welfare impacts versus changes in NOX emissions inventories.

16 Dec 1991TL;DR: In this article, a multilevel secure database management system based on a multi-level logic programming system is presented. But the system does not provide a complete answer to queries and prevents unauthorized inferences.
Abstract: Apparatus for designing a multilevel secure database management system based on a multilevel logic programming system. The apparatus includes a multilevel knowledge base which has a multilevel database in which data are classified at different security levels. The multilevel knowledge base also includes schema, which describe the data in the database, and rules, which are used to deduce new data. Also included are integrity constraints, which are constraints enforced on the data, and security constraints, which are rules that assign security levels to the data. The system further includes users cleared to the different security levels for querying the multilevel database, and a multilevel logic programming system is provided for accessing the multilevel knowledge base for processing queries and for processing the integrity and security constraints. The multilevel database management system makes deductions and gives complete answers to queries and prevents certain unauthorized inferences.
