TL;DR: In this paper, a micromechanical model of deformation with application to penetration of thick ceramic targets was described. But the model was used in parametric finite element code calculations of the penetration of an eroding, long tungsten rod into a target package consisting of a thick aluminum nitride plate confined in steel.

TL;DR: A robustness to this particular abstinence effect as a determinant of the speed with which ex-smokers relapse over a 1-month interval after cessation is suggested.

20 Jul 2000TL;DR: In this article, the authors present methods for fabricating electromechanical devices including one or more electroactive polymers, and compliant electrodes that conform to the shape of a polymer included in a transducer.
Abstract: The present invention relates to transducers, their use and fabrication. The transducers convert between mechanical and electrical energy. Some transducers of the present invention include a pre-strained polymer. The pre-strain improves the conversion between electrical and mechanical energy. The present invention also relates to devices including an electroactive polymer to convert between electrical and mechanical energy. The present invention further relates to compliant electrodes that conform to the shape of a polymer included in a transducer. The present invention provides methods for fabricating electromechanical devices including one or more electroactive polymers.

TL;DR: In this paper, the thermal cell (25°C) as a function of the concentration of and temperature are reported, combined with isothermal potentials for the silver-silver chloride electrode at elevated temperatures to calibrate external electrodes as pseudothermodynamic standards for the investigation of electrochemical processes in high temperature aqueous systems.
Abstract: Potentials for the thermal cell (25°C) as a function of the concentration of and temperature are reported. The thermal cell potentials are combined with isothermal potentials for the silver‐silver chloride electrode at elevated temperatures to calibrate external electrodes as pseudothermodynamic standards for the investigation of electrochemical processes in high temperature aqueous systems.

TL;DR: A novel approach to time-lapse interferometry and contouring is introduced that uses television rather than photographic techniques.
Abstract: A novel approach to time-lapse interferometry and contouring is introduced that uses television rather than photographic techniques. A first interferogram is stored on a video storage device such as a magnetic disk. After a change in the stress of the object, a second interferogram is electronically compared to the stored pattern to form a signal representative of the fringe pattern caused by the deformation. This signal may be directly displayed on a cathode-ray tube or employed by some automatic inspection device.
