Abstract: Quantifying the latency sensitivity of potential customers/players is critical for Internet-based game providers when planning the network placement of their game servers. Two Quake 3 servers were placed at different locations on the Internet in 2001, and instrumented to gather median latency information on every player who played over a multi-month period. Server logfiles showed an active yet distinct player population on each server. The median latency distributions suggest players actively prefer Quake 3 servers less than 150 to 180 milliseconds from the player's location. Quake 3 is often played as a multiplayer, Internet-based, highly interactive "first person shooter" game. Although Quake 3 is nowhere near as popular as games such as half- life: counterstrike, these results provide a useful ball-park indicator of latency sensitivity for this class of highly interactive online games.

Abstract: Ischemic stroke is associated with motor impairment and increased incidence of affective disorders such as anxiety/clinical depression. In non-stroke populations, successful management of such disorders and symptoms has been reported following diet supplementation with long chain omega-3-polyunsaturated-fatty-acids (PUFAs). However, the potential protective effects of PUFA supplementation on affective behaviors after experimentally induced stroke and sham surgery have not been examined previously. This study investigated the behavioral effects of PUFA supplementation over a 6-week period following either middle cerebral artery occlusion or sham surgery in the hooded-Wistar rat. The PUFA diet supplied during the acclimation period prior to surgery was found to be associated with an increased risk of acute hemorrhage following the reperfusion component of the surgery. In surviving animals, PUFA supplementation did not influence infarct size as determined 6 weeks after surgery, but did decrease omega-6-fatty-acid levels, moderate sickness behaviors, acute motor impairment, and longer-term locomotor hyperactivity and depression/anxiety-like behavior.

Abstract: Social networks have been developed as a great point for its users to communicate with their interested friends and share their opinions, photos, and videos reflecting their moods, feelings and sentiments. This creates an opportunity to analyze social network data for user’s feelings and sentiments to investigate their moods and attitudes when they are communicating via these online tools. Although diagnosis of depression using social networks data has picked an established position globally, there are several dimensions that are yet to be detected. In this study, we aim to perform depression analysis on Facebook data collected from an online public source. To investigate the effect of depression detection, we propose machine learning technique as an efficient and scalable method. We report an implementation of the proposed method. We have evaluated the efficiency of our proposed method using a set of various psycholinguistic features. We show that our proposed method can significantly improve the accuracy and classification error rate. In addition, the result shows that in different experiments Decision Tree (DT) gives the highest accuracy than other ML approaches to find the depression. Machine learning techniques identify high quality solutions of mental health problems among Facebook users.

Abstract: Abstract This article reviews recent progress leading to the generation of optical vortex beams. After introducing the basics of optical vortex beams and their promising applications, we summarized different approaches for optical vortex generation by discrete components and laser cavities. We place particular emphasis on the recent development of vortex generation by the planar phase plates, which are able to engineer a spiral phasefront via dynamic or geometric phase in nanoscale, and highlight the independent operation of these two different phases which leads to a multifunctional optical vortex beam generation and independent spin-orbit interaction. We also introduced the recent progress on vortex lasing, including vortex beam generation from the output of bulk lasers by modification of conventional laser cavities with phase elements and from integrated on-chip microlasers. Similar approaches are also applied to generate fractional vortex beams carrying fractional topological charge. The advanced technology and approaches on design and nanofabrications enable multiple vortex beams generation from a single device via multiplexing, multicasting, and vortex array, open up opportunities for applications on data processing, information encoding/decoding, communication and parallel data processing, and micromanipulations.
