TL;DR: The results of the BAN logic correctness check, security analysis, and performance evaluation confirm that the new protocol is logically correct and is capable of providing high level security/privacy protection on the basis of high cost-effective performance.
Abstract: Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a wireless communication technology nowadays widely used in almost every aspect of our lives including healthcare, logistics and supply chain management, inventory tracking, race timing, access control, toll collection, and a lot more. In RFID systems, a tag usually stores private or sensitive information, and so it needs an access control mechanism. When a tag's owner is changed, the read permission of the tag needs to be transferred from the old owner to the new owner, and this is when ownership transfer schemes come into play. In fact, not only do RFID ownership transfer schemes do ownership transfer, but they have to make sure that the ownership transfer procedure is executed under proper security protection. Besides, in some particular environments, the ownership transfer would be far more efficiently done if the tags could be treated as a group instead of individual tags. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel group ownership transfer protocol that satisfies all important security requirements including mutual authentication, data and location privacy, forward/backward secrecy, ownership privacy, and group ownership integrity. In addition, due to the use of cloud computing, our new protocol provides ubiquitous authentication. Based on homomorphic encryption and quadratic residues, our novel RFID group ownership transfer protocol can have encrypted data efficiently processed, and the communication cost is very low. The results of our BAN logic correctness check, security analysis, and performance evaluation confirm that the new protocol is logically correct and is capable of providing high level security/privacy protection on the basis of high cost-effective performance.

TL;DR: Investigating how Taiwanese mothers attempt to facilitate their children’s English development by exploring how they engage their children in English learning at home shows that mothers differed in the extent to which they engaged in shared reading and provided toys and computer media for English instruction, and that maternal education is related to the types of strategies and resources provided.
Abstract: Researchers have indicated that many children from Asian countries have the experience of learning English prior to school at home or at private institutes. The Taiwanese government promotes informal and play-based teaching of English in the home if the parents would like their young children to learn English prior to formal instruction. This study is designed to investigate how Taiwanese mothers attempt to facilitate their children’s English development by exploring how they engage their children in English learning at home. We also investigate whether there is a relationship between maternal educational attainment and maternal teaching practices and the use of resources. The sample consists of 647 mothers of preschoolers who responded to a questionnaire which surveyed their practices and resources utilized at home. The results showed that mothers differed in the extent to which they engaged in shared reading and provided toys and computer media for English instruction, and that maternal education is related to the types of strategies and resources provided. The findings provide significant information about what the mothers utilized to assist their young children to learn English language.

TL;DR: A novel positioning algorithm based on genetic algorithm (GA) to locate MS when three BSs are available for location purpose is presented and the simulation results show that the proposed algorithms can really improve the location accuracy, even under severe NLOS conditions.
Abstract: Intelligent transportation system (ITS) makes use of vehicle position to decrease the heavy traffic and improve service reliability of public transportation system. Many existing systems, such as global positioning system (GPS) and cellular communication systems, can be used to estimate vehicle location. The objective of wireless location is to determine the mobile station (MS) location in a wireless cellular communications system. The non-line-of-sight (NLOS) problem is the most crucial factor that it causes large measured error. In this paper, we present a novel positioning algorithm based on genetic algorithm (GA) to locate MS when three BSs are available for location purpose. Recently, GA are widely used as many various optimization problems. The proposed algorithm utilizes the intersections of three time of arrival (TOA) circles based on GA to estimate the MS location. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithms can really improve the location accuracy, even under severe NLOS conditions.

TL;DR: The TT route is suitable when a high peak drug effect is required and the LMA route may be preferable if a persistent plateau effect is desired, although effective LMA administration of drugs may require larger doses than those given via TT.
Abstract: Background. The aim of this animal study was to clarify the effects of laryngeal mask airway (LMA)-administrated epinephrine and to assess the optimal dose. Methods. Thirty pigs were anesthetized and intubated with a cuffed tracheal tube (TT) and an LMA. Then they were assigned to one of five groups. The control group received distilled water 10 mL via the TT; the TT group received epinephrine 50 g/ kg via the TT; and the other three groups received two, four or six times the TT dose of epinephrine via the LMA. Heart rate (HR) and arterial pressure were monitored before and after drug administration for 15 minutes. Results. After epinephrine administration, the LMA-6 and TT groups had elevated systolic, diastolic and mean arterial pressures at 1 min and there was no significant difference between the two groups. In the TT group, these parameters peaked at 2 min then declined rapidly. In the LMA-6 group, they increased more slowly, and then maintained a plateau. The control, LMA-2 and LMA-4 groups failed to display significant persistent (>2 min) hemodynamic changes. Conclusions. We could not identify an optimal LMA-administrated epinephrine dose. The TT route is suitable when a high peak drug effect is required and the LMA route may be preferable if a persistent plateau effect is desired. Effective LMA administration of drugs may require larger doses than those given via TT.
