21 Nov 2005TL;DR: The method consists of a computational model of the human auditory periphery, followed by a novel periodicity analysis mechanism, which outperformed two state-of-the-art reference methods in simulations.
Abstract: This paper describes a method for estimating of the fundamental frequencies (FO) of several concurrent musical sounds. The method consists of a computational model of the human auditory periphery, followed by a novel periodicity analysis mechanism. Estimation of multiple fundamental frequencies is achieved by cancelling each detected sound from the mixture and by repeating the estimation for the residual. Computational load of the method remains reasonable since the peripheral hearing model (i.e., the hardest part) needs to be computed only once. The method is relatively straightforward to implement and outperformed two state-of-the-art reference methods in simulations.

TL;DR: In this article, an action-based qualitative case study explores how the project communication routines affect stakeholder engagement during change management process and evolve project culture and concludes that an effective communication ensures stakeholder participation in the change management processes through teamwork and empowerment, whereas lacking communication routines lead to a rational and straightforward project culture where task performance and efficiency are preferred over stakeholder involvement.

TL;DR: To separate the roles of these two mechanisms in chiral symmetry breaking, gold nanostructures with chirality occurring on different levels are prepared, suggesting that uncontrollable defects play an important role in symmetry breaking.
Abstract: The symmetry of metal nanostructures may be broken by their overall features or small-scale defects. To separate the roles of these two mechanisms in chiral symmetry breaking, we prepare gold nanostructures with chirality occurring on different levels. Linear optical measurements reveal small chiral signatures, whereas the chiral responses from second-harmonic generation are enormous. The responses of all structures are remarkably similar, suggesting that uncontrollable defects play an important role in symmetry breaking.

TL;DR: Three physical tests are proposed to measure correlations in random numbers used in Monte Carlo simulations to show that recent errors in high precision Ising simulations using generalized feedback shift register algorithms are due to short range correlations inrandom number sequences.
Abstract: We propose three physical tests to measure correlations in random numbers used in Monte Carlo simulations. The first test uses autocorrelation times of certain physical quantities when the Ising model is simulated with the Wolff algorithm. The second test is based on random walks, and the third on blocks of [ital n] successive numbers. We apply the tests to show that recent errors in high precision Ising simulations using generalized feedback shift register algorithms are due to short range correlations in random number sequences.

TL;DR: In this article, the optimal characteristics of Cu powder optimized for cold spraying, achieving high coating quality and comparing properties of HPCS Cu, LPCS CU and Cu+Al2O3 coatings prepared from the same batch of OFHC Cu powder.
Abstract: Cold spraying enables high quality Cu coatings to be deposited for applications where high electrical and/or thermal conductivity is needed. Fully dense Cu coatings can provide an effective corrosion barrier in specific environments. The structure of cold-sprayed Cu coatings is characterized by high deformation which imparts excellent properties. Coating properties depend on powder, the cold spray process and post treatments. First of all, powder characteristics have a strong influence on the formation of pure coatings. Secondly, cold spraying provides dense, adherent, and conductive coatings by using HPCS and LPCS. Furthermore, an addition of Al2O3 particles to the Cu powder in LPCS process significantly improves coating properties. Also, heat treatments improve electrical conductivity. This study summarizes optimal characteristics of Cu powder optimized for cold spraying, achieving high coating quality and compares properties of HPCS Cu, LPCS Cu and Cu+Al2O3 coatings prepared from the same batch of OFHC Cu powder.
