TL;DR: It is concluded that oxidative stress and counterbalancing antioxidant capacity are more pronounced in diabetic acute Stroke patients than in nondiabetic acute stroke patients.
Abstract: Free radical formation is the pivotal mechanism of neuronal injury of ischemic and reperfused brain tissue. In healthy individuals, antioxidant activity counterbalances free radical production, but in the case of ischemia, the balance between reactive oxygen species and antioxidant activity is shifted toward free radicals, causing oxidative stress. The aim of this study is to assess total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and oxidative stress in diabetic and nondiabetic acute stroke patients with 2 different stroke subtypes: large and small vessel disease stroke. Sixty-five acute ischemic stroke patients (29 diabetic and 36 nondiabetic) and 20 age-matched healthy control subjects were recruited in the study. Plasma TAC and nitric oxide (NO) metabolite levels (nitrite and nitrate) were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The subtypes of stroke were defined according to Trial of Org 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment criteria. The main findings of this study are that the TAC and NO levels were significantly higher in diabetic acute stroke patients than in nondiabetic patients and control cases (P < .001 and P < .001, respectively). The TAC and NO levels were higher also in nondiabetic stroke patients than in controls, but the difference did not reach any significance. No difference was found between NO and TAC levels in large and small vessel stroke subtypes of diabetic and nondiabetic patients. The authors conclude that oxidative stress and counterbalancing antioxidant capacity are more pronounced in diabetic acute stroke patients than in nondiabetic acute stroke patients.

TL;DR: GISs presented effective prevention of caries development, even though the failure rate is higher when compared to the RSs, and an increased salivary fluoride level due to GISs might be an additive effect on the prevention of dental caries.
Abstract: The aim of this study was to compare the caries prevention effectiveness, retention rates and the level of fluoride of saliva of a glassionomer sealant (GIS) with that of a resin-based sealant (RS). Eighty GIS and 80RS were placed on the first permanent molars in 40 children aged 7-10 years. Children were re-examined at 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 months after the procedure. Saliva samples were collected before the sealant was applied and again at each appointment, and fluoride levels were measured. After 48 months, occlusal caries were seen in 4 and 12 teeth in GIS and RS groups respectively. There was a statistically significant difference in the fluoride levels of saliva between baseline and up to 12th month in GIS group. GISs presented effective prevention of caries development, even though the failure rate is higher when compared to the RSs. An increased salivary fluoride level due to GISs might be an additive effect on the prevention of dental caries.

TL;DR: In order to fight effectively against tuberculosis, positive attitudes toward tuberculosis must be developed among health care teams, and awareness of tuberculosis via theoretical and practical education, starting from the initial semesters of the professional education, must be increased.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the technical adequacy of four early numeracy screening tasks: oral counting, number identification, quantity discrimination, and missing number (MN) with 59 kindergarten students.
Abstract: The current study examines the technical adequacy of four Early Numeracy Curriculum-Based Measurement (EN-CBM) screening tasks: Oral Counting (OC), Number Identification (NI), Quantity Discrimination (QD), and Missing Number (MN) Results from 59 kindergarten students assessed in the fall and spring reveal moderate to high test—retest and delayed alternate-form reliability In addition, data from the four measures demonstrate adequate concurrent and predictive validity by comparing them to an established measure of early numeracy The measures demonstrated growth over time from the beginning to the end of kindergarten Finally, combinations of the measures were evaluated post hoc, and the combination of NI, QD, and MN produced the highest reliability, validity, and rate of growth coefficients Overall, results support the technical adequacy of EN-CBM for use with kindergarten-aged children
