TL;DR: In this paper, the chemical profile of bee pollen and bee bread (BB) samples collected from the same beehive were analyzed by LC-MS/MS (liquid chromatography technique coupled with tandem mass spectrometry), providing the identification of 23 phenolic compounds and 42 free amino acids (FAAs).

TL;DR: Intraoperative magnesium administration significantly reduced muscle relaxant and opioid requirements; more importantly, it also reduced postoperative pain and opioid use.
Abstract: Background: Magnesium sulphate administration was initially reported to reduce postoperative analgesic requirements Subsequent reports, though, were inconsistent Specifically, we tested the hypotheses that intraoperative magnesium sulfate administration reduces postoperative requirement for opioids, secondary outcomes were intraoperative muscle relaxant, sevoflurane consumptions and postoperative pain Methods: Fifty American society of anesthesiology status (ASA) I-II patients who gave a written informed consent were scheduled for elective lumbar disc surgery The Institutional Review Board approved the study Patients were randomly assigned to the placebo group (n = 25) or magnesium group (n = 25) Patients assigned to the magnesium group were given an initial infusion of 30 mg/kg (over 10 minutes) starting immediately after anesthesia and completed before intubation The infusion was then continued at 10 mg/kg/hr throughout surgery General anesthesia was induced with propofol, 25 mg/kg, and maintained with sevoflurane 2 percent in a 50 percent O2/50 percent N2O mixture The sevoflurane concentration was adjusted to keep bispectral index (BIS) values between 45 and 60 Both groups were given atracurium, 06 mg/kg, and a remifentanil infusion at an initial dose of 01 mg/kg/h The remifentanil infusion was adjusted to maintain heart rate and mean arterial pressure (MAP) within 20 percent of baseline values Atracurium administration was repeated when the train of four (TOF) ratio exceeded 030 Intubation conditions were scored At the end of surgery, the authors assessed recovery using early recovery criteria and Aldrete recovery scores Postoperative analgesia was maintained with morphine via patient-controlled analgesia Results: Heart rate, MAP, and pulse oximetry (SPO2) values were similar in the groups at all times Intubating conditions were similar except that the increase in MAP was greater in the placebo group Neither BIS values nor sevoflurane consumption differed between the groups; however, significantly less atracurium [95% CI = 41 (28, 55)] and remifentanil [95% CI = 014 (007, 020)] was used in the magnesium group Side effects, Aldrete scores, and early recovery parameters were all similar in the groups In the first 24 hours, visual analogue scale (VAS) values for pain were greater in the placebo than in the magnesium group The magnesium group consumed significantly less morphine [95% CI = 11 (6, 16)] Conclusion: Intraoperative magnesium administration significantly reduced muscle relaxant and opioid requirements; more importantly, it also reduced postoperative pain and opioid use

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that aprotinin is a promising agent in the prevention of extraneural scarring in rats by carrying out three types of surgical intervention.
Abstract: Extraneural scarring is one of the factors negatively influencing the result of peripheral nerve surgery. Many organic materials have been used to prevent fibrosis. The effect of aprotinin on peripheral nerve scarring in rats was investigated in this study. Three types of surgical intervention were carried out; namely external neurolysis (I), abrasive injury (II), and anastomosis (III). The coded samples which consisted of pure collagen fibers soaked with aprotinin or phosphate-buffered saline were applied around the left sciatic nerves of rats whereas only sham operations were performed on the right sciatic nerves. Animals were sacrificed after 4 or 6 weeks. Neurological examination, gross evaluation of extraneural fibrosis, and histological study were undertaken. The results have demonstrated that aprotinin is a promising agent in the prevention of extraneural scarring.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of the infinite cylindrical quantum well-wire barrier on the donor electron within a variational scheme was calculated for different location of impurity ion as function of both electric and magnetic fields.
Abstract: In this work we have calculated the effect of the infinite cylindrical quantum well-wire barrier on the donor electron within a variational scheme. The binding energy and the self-polarization effect are calculated for different location of impurity ion as function of both electric and magnetic fields. We find that, self-polarization effect depends strongly on the applied magnetic field.

TL;DR: No correlation was found between the amount of coffee consumption and BMD, and advancing age, duration of menopause and smoking habits have been identified to be risk factors in relation to OP.
Abstract: This study aims to investigate how a person's smoking and coffee consumption habits in the premenopausal stage can affect the postmenopausal BMD values. Two hundred females in the postmenopause stage were evaluated. The average daily coffee consumption and smoking habits in the premenopause stage and the demographic characteristics, age and duration of menopause of all the cases were identified and noted. The bone mineral density (BMD) evaluations of these cases were made with Dual Energy X-ray Absorbsiometer (DEXA) technique. The relationship of the questioned risk factors with BMD and differences among the groups were investigated. No correlation was found between the amount of coffee consumption and BMD. The BMD values of the smokers' group were lower than non-smokers' group. As a result, advancing age, duration of menopause and smoking habits have been identified to be risk factors in relation to OP.
