TL;DR: In this article, the impact of surface modification on properties of flax fiber and flax-reinforced composites was examined by using contact angle, attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and scanning electron microscopy.
Abstract: The aim of this study is to examine the impact of surface modification on properties of flax fiber and flax-reinforced composites For this purpose, acetic anhydride, sodium hydroxide, and silane were used to treat surface of the flax fiber The effects of treatments on fiber were investigated by using contact angle, attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) Contact angle and AFM results revealed that sodium hydroxide-treated flax fibers have higher adhesion force on the fiber surface Particularly, NaOH treatment improved the mechanical properties of the epoxy matrix composite

TL;DR: It was concluded that curcumin treatment may have beneficial effects in acute lung injury, and therefore has potential for clinical use.
Abstract: The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of curcumin on acute lung injury induced by intestinal ischaemia/reperfusion (I/R). A total of 30 male Wistar albino rats were divided into 3 groups: sham, I/R, and I/R + curcumin; each group contains 10 animals. Sham group animals underwent laparotomy without I/R injury. After I/R groups animals underwent laparotomy, 1 h of superior mesenteric artery ligation were followed by 1 h of reperfusion. In the curcumin group, 3 days before I/R, curcumin (100 mg/kg) was administered by gastric gavage. All animals were killed at the end of reperfusion and lung tissue samples were obtained for biochemical and histopathological investigation in all groups. To date, no more biochemical and histopathological changes on intestinal I/R injury in rats by curcumin treatment have been reported. Curcumin treatment significantly decreased the elevated tissue malondialdehyde levels and increased reduced superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase enzyme activities in lung tissue samples. Intestinal I/R caused severe histopathological injury including oedema, haemorrhage, increased thickness of the alveolar wall, and infiltration of inflammatory cells into alveolar spaces. Curcumin treatment significantly attenuated the severity of intestinal I/R injury. Furthermore, there is a significant reduction in the activity of inducible nitric oxide synthase and increase in the expression of surfactant protein D in lung tissue of acute lung injury induced by intestinal I/R with curcumin therapy. It was concluded that curcumin treatment may have beneficial effects in acute lung injury, and therefore has potential for clinical use.

TL;DR: A case of epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma of bronchial gland origin in a 73-year-old man who presented with coughing and dyspnea is reported, and it is considered to be a low-grade malignant neoplasm.
Abstract: Primary lung tumors mimicking the salivary gland–type neoplasms are extremely rare. These types of tumors originate from submucosal bronchial glands. Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma is an uncommon tumor in this group, and only 7 cases have been reported. It is considered to be a low-grade malignant neoplasm. We report a case of epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma of bronchial gland origin in a 73-year-old man who presented with coughing and dyspnea. The bronchus of the left lower lobe contained a tumor mass that had a polypoid growth pattern. The tumor also extended into the pulmonary parenchyma, forming a well-circumscribed mass with a pushing margin. The tumor consisted of epithelial and myoepithelial cells. The epithelial cells were positive for cytokeratins and epithelial membrane antigen, while the myoepithelial cells were positive for S100 protein and muscle-specific actin. According to these findings, we diagnosed epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma. After undergoing pneumonectomy, the pa...

TL;DR: The homotopy perturbation method is applied to Fisher type equations in recursive sequence forms which can be used to obtain the closed form of the solutions if they are required.
Abstract: In this paper, homotopy perturbation method is applied to Fisher type equations. The solutions introduced in this study are in recursive sequence forms which can be used to obtain the closed form of the solutions if they are required. The method is tested on various examples which are revealing the effectiveness and the simplicity of the method.
