TL;DR: In this article, the effect of both an electric and magnetic field on the hydrogenic binding energy of a shallow donor impurity in a coaxial GaAs-(Ga, Al)As quantum well wire (QWW) has been investigated as a function of the impurity position and barrier thicknesses for different values of the applied magnetic and electric field strengths.
Abstract: The effect of both an electric and magnetic field on the hydrogenic binding energy of a shallow donor impurity in a coaxial GaAs-(Ga, Al)As quantum well wire (QWW) has been investigated as a function of the impurity position and barrier thicknesses for different values of the applied magnetic and electric field strengths. Within the effective mass approximation, the ground-state energy in the presence of a uniform magnetic field applied parallel to the wire axis has been calculated using the fourth-order Runge–Kutta method. The ground state binding energy under applied electric field has been studied with a variational approach. The two sharp increase in the binding energy have observed for the donor impurity located at outside of the center under the critical electric and magnetic field values. However, for the electric field off the binding energy monotonously decrease with increasing magnetic field strength up to a critical magnetic field and then a sharp decrease is seen before reaching a constant value. For the impurity located at the center, the abrupt deviations of the binding energy strongly depend not only on the electronic confinement, but also on the electric and magnetic field strength. We expect that these results will be useful in technological applications.

TL;DR: Serum TNF-alpha levels were similar in patients with PCOS and with PCO; however, there was no correlation between the T NF-alpha and insulin, glucose and androgen levels in the study.
Abstract: OBJECTIVE To compare the serum tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) levels in nonobese women with those in women with polycystic ovaries (PCO) and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and healthy controls. STUDY DESIGN Twenty-one sonographically and biochemically diagnosed women with PCOS, 19 with PCO and 14 healthy women were recruited for the study. Serum TNF-alpha levels were measured in all three groups. Insulin and glucose serum concentrations were analyzed before and after a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test in all samples. The serum TNF-alpha, glucose and insulin levels were compared in PCOS, PCO and controls. RESULTS Serum TNF-alpha levels were similar in the PCOS and PCO groups (23.67 +/- 5.58 and 13.58 +/- 1.34 pg/mL, respectively) and significantly higher than in the control group. Serum TNF-alpha levels did not significantly correlated with body mass index, serum total testosterone, LH, DHEAS, fasting glucose and fasting insulin levels or glucose and insulin area under the curve values in the three groups. CONCLUSION We found similar TNF-alpha levels in patients with PCOS and with PCO; however, there was no correlation between the TNF-alpha and insulin, glucose and androgen levels in the study.

TL;DR: PEMF seems to reduce lateral epicondylitis pain better than sham PEMF, and Corticosteroid and anesthetic agent injections can be used in patients for rapid return to activities.
Abstract: We aimed to investigate the efficacy of pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) in lateral epicondylitis comparing the modality with sham PEMF and local steroid injection. Sixty patients with lateral epicondylitis were randomly and equally distributed into three groups as follows: Group I received PEMF, Group II sham PEMF, and Group III a corticosteroid + anesthetic agent injection. Pain levels during rest, activity, nighttime, resisted wrist dorsiflexion, and forearm supination were investigated with visual analog scale (VAS). Pain threshold on elbow was determined with algometer. All patients were evaluated before treatment at the third week and the third month. VAS values during activity and pain levels during resisted wrist dorsiflexion were significantly lower in Group III than Group I at the third week. Group I patients had lower pain during rest, activity and nighttime than Group III at third month. PEMF seems to reduce lateral epicondylitis pain better than sham PEMF. Corticosteroid and anesthetic agent injections can be used in patients for rapid return to activities.
