01 Jan 1997TL;DR: In this article, the ability to detect deteriorated XLPE cables is verified and measured dielectric response is related to breakdown voltages and the application of the method on cables in service is then presented.
Abstract: A research project was started in 1992 with the aim to develop a useful nondestructive method to determine the condition of water tree deteriorated XLPE cables in service. Since 1995 an extensive laboratory investigation has been made on cables aged in service and a large number of field measurements have been performed on cables in service. The purpose of this report is to present these results and the further development of the diagnostic procedures. This report starts with presentation of the measurement procedure. The procedure is applied both to laboratory and field measurements. In the part on laboratory investigations the ability to detect deteriorated cables is verified and measured dielectric response is related to breakdown voltages. The application of the method on cables in service is then presented. The field investigation part also includes practical considerations on the measurement procedure and on the influence of accessories and terminations.

01 Jan 2013TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the achieved benefits, both financial and non-financial, from the Smart Meter rollout and the value to upgrade some of the Smart Meters with more advanced functionality.
Abstract: Vattenfall Distribution started already during 2003 to rollout smart meters to all about 850.000 Private and SME customers with a fuse size up to 63A. The main reason was to implement an efficient solution to handle monthly billing based on actual consumption which was required from July 2009. The rollout decision was based on an original business case. After that, also additional business cases have been evaluated and implemented, here called extended business cases. This paper describes the achieved benefits, both financial and non-financial, from the Smart Meter rollout. The value to upgrade some of the Smart Meters with more advanced functionality is also described. (4 pages)
