TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of trailing edge extensions was tested for the Gottingen 797 and Wortmann FX 63-137 aerofoil sections with smooth surfaces at chord Reynolds numbers from 3 x 10 5 to 1 x 10 6 in the 8ft x 6ft low speed wind-tunnel at the Cranfield Institute of Technology.
Abstract: The effect of trailing edge extensions was tested for the twodimensional Gottingen 797 and Wortmann FX 63-137 aerofoil sections with smooth surfaces at chord Reynolds numbers from 3 x 10 5 to 1 x 10 6 in the 8ft x 6ft low speed wind-tunnel at the Cranfield Institute of Technology. Force measurements were made on the basic aerofoil sections and with extension plates of 10% and 20% chord set tangential to the upper surface at the trailing edge. It was verified that the addition of an extension plate effectively brings about an increase of maximum lift coefficient and an improved lift-to-drag ratio for the Gottingen aerofoil section. However, the effect of the extension plate was small on the Wortmann aerofoil section.

TL;DR: In this paper, an approach of air-to-air autonomous attack was proposed aimed to improve attack precision and combat effectiveness, and the simulation result demonstrates that UCAV can arrive at the optimum launch position in a short time with stable gesture, and attack the target effectively.
Abstract: In air-to-air autonomous attack, the Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles( UCAV) has the disadvantages of small attack zone, poor mobility, and time lag of information link. To solve the problems,an approach of autonomous attack was proposed aimed to improve attack precision and combat effectiveness.Kinematic and dynamic models of UCAV and the guided missile were formed based on the characteristics of air-to-air autonomous attack. The attack zone and no-escape zone were calculated out by using the pattern search algorithm, through which the optimum launch position was indicated. To arrive at the optimum launch position, sliding mode control was used to design the process of autonomous attacking occupation, which was simulated later. The simulation result demonstrates that UCAV can arrive at the optimum launch position in a short time with stable gesture, and attack the target effectively.

01 Jan 2018TL;DR: In this article, tensile tests were conducted following the ASTM Standard D3039 for different specimens produced using additive manufacturing, which included Polylactic acid (PLA), tough PLA, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), and black resin.
Abstract: Tensile tests were conducted following the ASTM Standard D3039 for different specimens produced using additive manufacturing. In the expansion of the 3D printing market, different methods of three-dimensional printing and materials have been developed. Different specimens ranging in materials and infill were printed with a consumer grade PLA FDM printer without heated bed, a consumer grade SLA printer, and an industrial manufacturing grade ABS FDM printer with heated bed. The specimens included Polylactic Acid (PLA), Tough PLA, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), and black resin. The PLA and tough PLA specimens were printed at infill intervals of 20% and at 0/90 and ±45° with respect to the longitudinal axis. The ABS material was also printed at the same angles with respect to the longitudinal axis at solid (SO), sparse double density (DD), sparse high density (HD), and sparse low density (LO) infill values. The consumer grade SLA printer was used to print specimens using black resin and was divided into two sets. The first set includes specimens that were cured under an ultraviolet light while the second set contained those that were not cured after printing. The overall result showed that the infill and print orientation of ±45° performed better for the PLA and Tough PLA material. However, the orientation did not influence the ABS material which may have been the result of using an industrial grade 3D printer. In resins, the increase in resolution resulted in a higher ultimate stress while curing normalized the ductility of the material.

15 Dec 2010TL;DR: The chequered history of balloons and airships is reviewed and various types are defined in this paper, where safety issues are discussed and with economic considerations are used to draw conclusions of future prospects.
Abstract: The chequered history of balloons and airships is reviewed and the various types are defined. Properties and applications of lifting gases are given together with techniques of operation both in free flight and in proximity to the ground. Airship aerodynamics, performance, and powerplant considerations are covered as also are typical component mass contributions. There is a description of construction materials and methods. Safety issues are discussed and with economic considerations are used to draw conclusions of future prospects.
