Abstract: We present the result of a study in which a summer K-12 robotics course has been taught by a college professor and three student members from the Vaughn College's Robotics Club. Our aim was to provide an enjoyable teaching and learning environment similar to a "Big Brothers" program so that high school students can learn robotics programming more efficiently. We present details on the approach we have taken as well as K-12 student feedback made through the comments on the course survey. Finally, we discuss the future works that may be able to improve the teaching approach. The participants for the summer robotics course were students ranging from junior high school to senior high school. Prior to attending the summer program, most of the students did not have experience regarding robotics and generally did not know how to build and program a robot. After completing the five-week summer program, their interests in robotics had a dramatic increase. Most students were excited about coming back next summer to gain a more advanced understanding about robotics.

09 Jun 2018TL;DR: The principle of inference in SADT is explained in detail and the results show that the proposed optimal method has better performance than traditional bayesian network.
Abstract: Air combat situation assessment is a multi-parameter, nonlinear and real-time problem so that approach based on a novel structure of decision tree is proposed. Unlike traditional assessment method, information of both unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and enemy is focused as input to raise degree of assessment accuracy. Firstly, four attributes are established, which are foundations to evaluate situation from different aspect. Then, the principle of inference in SADT is explained in detail and air combat situation assessment decision tree (SADT) is structured. Lastly, extensive simulations, including one-to- one and two-to-one, are implemented and the results show that the proposed optimal method has better performance than traditional bayesian network.

TL;DR: In this paper, a compound beam element for the transient hybrid finite element analysis was developed, which is a combination of an elastic beam and nonlinear rotary springs whose behavior in the elastic/plastic and deep collapse range is controlled by inputted moment-rotation curves.

TL;DR: The first Cierva Memorial Lecture was given in the Lecture Theatre of the Royal Aeronautical Society on 16th February 1961 with Dr. E. S. Moult, C.B.E., B.Sc., F.I.Ae.
Abstract: The First Cierva Memorial Lecture was given in the Lecture Theatre of the Society on 16th February 1961 with Dr. E. S. Moult, C.B.E., B.Sc., F.R.Ae.S., M.I.Mech.E., President of the Society, in the Chair. Introducing the lecturer, Dr. Moult said that, beginning in 1948, through the generosity of Wing Commander Graham Douglas, the Helicopter Association of Great Britain awarded a prize annually in commemoration of the great pioneer work of Juan de la Cierva in the field of rotary wing flight. When the Helicopter Association merged with the Royal Aeronautical Society in 1960 it was decided to institute a Cierva Memorial Lecture as a main event in the yearly calendar of the newly-formed Rotorcraft Section of the Society. This was the first lecture of what he was sure would be an outstanding series and they were honoured by having with them for the occasion Dr. Carlos de la Cierva, son of the great pioneer. Professor Bennett had spent much of his working life associated with rotary wing aircraft and had been closely associated with Senor de la Cierva. He had been with the Cierva Autogiro Company for about 10 years, and for some seven years was head of the Helicopter Branch of Fairey Aviation; in America he was for a period a member of the British Air Commission and later, was Chief of Research of Hiller Aircraft. He was now Deputy Principal and Head of the Department of Aerodynamics at the College of Aeronautics.
