TL;DR: In this article, the surface modification of 3D printed PLA scaffold with chitosan and its hydroxyapatite (HA) forming capability was reported and the entrapment method did not induce any cytotoxic response towards human fibroblast cell.
Abstract: This work reports the surface modification of 3D printed PLA scaffold with chitosan and its hydroxyapatite (HA) forming capability. PLA scaffold was fabricated using a desktop 3D printer followed by the inclusion of chitosan on the surface via surface entrapment. Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) images showed existence of chitosan entrapment with depth of 24 μm. Immersion of the modified PLA scaffold in simulated body fluid resulted in formation of apatite layers on the surface. Plus the entrapment method does not induce any cytotoxic response towards human fibroblast cell. This method provides a facile approach of obtaining 3D printed scaffold with good bioactivity thus has potential in biomimetic and tissue engineering.

TL;DR: In this article, a study of highly filled composites of polypropylene (PP) and 75 and 85% by weight of oil palm mesocarp fiber (OPF) with and without coupling agent, maleic anhydride-grafted poly (styrene-ethylene/butadiene styrene) (SEBS-MA) and a maleated polypropylon (MAPP) was performed.
Abstract: This paper reports on a study of highly filled composites of polypropylene (PP) and 75 and 85% by weight of oil palm mesocarp fiber (OPF) with and without coupling agent, maleic anhydride-grafted poly (styrene-ethylene/butadiene styrene) (SEBS-MA) and a maleated polypropylene (MAPP). Composites were prepared using a thermokinetic mixer for blending followed by hot pressing. The thermal and mechanical behavior of these composites was investigated by flexural and impact testing and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) was also used to study the properties. The MAPP improve the flexural modulus and flexural strength of the composites with 75 and 85wt% of oil palm fiber while SEBS-MA improved the impact strength of the composites. By SEM it was possible to observe some voids, pull out and debonding in the polypropylene, and allowing the observation of level of adhesion between the fiber and matrix. DMTA showed a decrease in storage modulus when high amounts of fiber we...

TL;DR: In this article, a styrene-ethylene-butadiene-styrene copolymer grafted graphene oxide/epoxy (SEBS-g-GO/EP) nanocomposites were successfully prepared by modifying the curing agents of epoxy resin.
Abstract: Styrene-ethylene-butadiene-styrene (SEBS) copolymer grafted graphene oxide/epoxy (SEBS-g-GO/EP) nanocomposites were successfully prepared by modifying the curing agents of epoxy resin. To enhance the dispersity of graphene oxide (GO) itself and improve the compatibility between GO and polymer matrix, SEBS-g-GO was prepared via solution mixing technique, amination and following reaction with maleic anhydride grafted SEBS (SEBS-g-MAH), resulting in grafting rate 49 wt%. A series of characterization methods included the X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscopic (TEM) were used to confirm the grafting of SEBS onto GO. The effects of SEBS-g-GO on epoxy resin (EP) nanocomposites were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), tensile, flexural and impact test. The results showed that SEBS-g-GO could be uniformly dispers...

TL;DR: In this article, Graphene oxide (GO) and brached polyethyleneimine (PEI) were applied to the surface of carbon fiber by layer-by-layer assembly.
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to increase the interfacial properties in PMMA/carbon fiber (PMMA/CF) composites Graphene oxide (GO) and brached polyethyleneimine were coated onto the surface of carbon fiber by layer-by-layer assembly in this work. Compared with the origin PMMA/CF composite, the composites reinforced by PMMA/CF–GO showed significant enhancement in interFacial shear strength (IFSS). The improved fiber–matrix adhesion was proved by fracture morphology observation of scanning electron microscopy and almost unaffected mechanical properties of the fiber itself during the coating process. The optimal assembly time was found to be 10 for enhancing the overall composite mechanical performance.
