TLDR
A chymotrypsin-like proteinase was isolated from the posterior midgut of larvae of the yellow mealworm, Tenebrio molitor, by ion-exchange and gel filtration chromatography and found that the best substrate was SucAAPFpNA, with k(cat app) 36.5 s(-1) and K(m) 1.59 mM.

Extraction and characterisation of protein fractions from five insect species

TL;DR: The insect species studied have potential to be used in foods due to: (1) absolute protein levels; (2) protein quality; (3) ability to form gels.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recovery and techno-functionality of flours and proteins from two edible insect species: Meal worm (Tenebrio molitor) and black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae.

TL;DR: This work investigates the protein extractability and techno-functionality of insect flour fractions recovered from Tenebrio molitor and Hermetia illucens and isolates proteins from the flours by optimizing protein solubility, composition and structure.

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Digestion

TL;DR: The aim of this chapter is to establish uniform parameters for studying insect digestive enzymes, providing an overview of the biochemistry of insect digestion, and discusses factors affecting digestive enzymes in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI

Diversity of digestive proteinases in Tenebrio molitor (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) larvae.

TL;DR: Data support a complex system of protein digestion, and the correlation of proteinase activity and pH indicates a physiological mechanism of enzyme regulation in the gut.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular cloning and expression analysis of chymotrypsin-like serine protease from the Chinese shrimp, Fenneropenaeus chinensis.

TL;DR: A new member of the serine protease (SP) chymotrypsin (designated Fc-chy) was isolated from the hepatopancreas of Chinese shrimp Fenneropenaeus chinensis and showed high hydrolytic activity toward the substrate N-succinyl-ala-ala -ala-pro-phe p-nitroanilide (AAPF), and its activity was inhibited by Kazal-type SP inhibitor from Chinese shrimp.

Protein Measurement with the Folin Phenol Reagent

TL;DR: Procedures are described for measuring protein in solution or after precipitation with acids or other agents, and for the determination of as little as 0.2 gamma of protein.
Journal ArticleDOI

The preparation and properties of two new chromogenic substrates of trypsin.

TL;DR: Preliminary studies indicate that benzoyl dl -arginine p -nitroanilide hydrochloride is also hydrolyzed by papain, and that of l -LPA is in a more alkaline region than normally found for trypsin substrates.
