TLDR
In the first part of this two article series on the imperative technologies for wastewater treatment, a review of oxidation processes operating at ambient conditions was presented It has been observed that none of the methods can be used individually in wastewater treatment applications with good economics and high degree of energy efficiency Moreover, the knowledge required for the large-scale design and application is perhaps lacking as mentioned in this paper.

Recent Developments in Photocatalytic Water Treatment Technology: A Review

TL;DR: For the first time, a multi-variables optimization approach is described to determine the optimum operation parameters so as to enhance process performance and photooxidation efficiency in the photocatalytic water treatment process.
Journal ArticleDOI

Advanced Oxidation Processes for Organic Contaminant Destruction Based on the Fenton Reaction and Related Chemistry

TL;DR: In this paper, the complex mechanisms of Fenton and Fenton-like reactions and the important factors influencing these reactions, from both a fundamental and practical perspective, in applications to water and soil treatment, are discussed.

Decontamination and disinfection of water by solar photocatalysis: Recent overview and trends

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed the use of sunlight to produce the OH radicals by TiO2 photocatalysis and photo-Fenton process and summarized most of the research carried out related to solar photocatalytic degradation of water contaminants and how it could significantly contribute to the treatment of persistent toxic compounds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Combination of Advanced Oxidation Processes and biological treatments for wastewater decontamination—A review

TL;DR: The main conclusions arrived at from the overall assessment of the literature are that more work needs to be done on degradation kinetics and reactor modeling of the combined process, and also dynamics of the initial attack on primary contaminants and intermediate species generation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Review of iron-free Fenton-like systems for activating H2O2 in advanced oxidation processes

TL;DR: A thorough review of alternative non-iron Fenton catalysts and their reactivity towards hydrogen peroxide activation is presented, describing in detail the complex mechanisms and emphasizes on practical limitations influencing their environmental applications.

Aqueous Phase Disinfection with Power Ultrasound: Process Kinetics and Effect of Solid Catalysts

TL;DR: It was found that catalytic effects faded away with increased sonication time and/or reduced number of bacteria, denoting decreased probability of bacterial contact with the solid-liquid interface; erosion of solid surfaces by vibrational effects; and reduced cavity formation due to degassing effects of ultrasound.
Journal ArticleDOI

Homogenous and heterogenous advanced oxidation of two commercial reactive dyes.

TL;DR: The relative growth inhibition of the azo dye towards the marine algae Dunaliella tertiolecta that was initially 70%, did not exhibit an increase during the studied advanced oxidation reactions and complete detoxification at the end of the treatment period could be achieved for all investigated treatment processes.

Degradation kinetics of cuprophenyl yellow RL by UV/H2O2/ultrasonication (US) process in aqueous solution

TL;DR: In this article, experiments were conducted to study the kinetic aspects of the UV/H 2 O 2 /US treatment process for Cuprophenyl Yellow RL and it was found that the reduction in absorbance of the dye solution followed the pseudo-first-order kinetic model at different pH and hydrogen peroxide dosages.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cavitation-Induced Degradation of Phenol by Ultrasound

TL;DR: In this paper, a solution of phenol was irradiated with ultrasonic waves of sufficient intensity to induce cavitation, and it was exponentially degradated, because of the formation of reactive species produced by water decomposition and reaction with water and oxygen.

Ozonation of Aqueous Solutions of Nitrogen Heterocyclic Compounds : Benzotriazoles, Atrazine and Amitrole

TL;DR: Moreovoer et al. as mentioned in this paper studied the reactivities of four heterocyclic nitrogen compounds, at slightly acidic pH in a heterogeneous gas-liquid system, and found that the reactionivities of these compounds are different.
