In vitro and in vivo measurements showed that the sensitivity of the glucose measurement is unaffected by the presence of common blood analytes but that there can be substantial shifts in baseline values, indicating the need for spectroscopic data to develop algorithms for the detection of glucose in the absence of other analytes.Abstract:
We report here on in vitro and in vivo experiments that are intended to explore the feasibility of photoacoustic spectroscopy as a tool for the noninvasive measurement of blood glucose. The in vivo results from oral glucose tests on eight subjects showed good correlation with clinical measurements but indicated that physiological factors and person-to-person variability are important. In vitro measurements showed that the sensitivity of the glucose measurement is unaffected by the presence of common blood analytes but that there can be substantial shifts in baseline values. The results indicate the need for spectroscopic data to develop algorithms for the detection of glucose in the presence of other analytes.read more

Photoacoustic tomography: principles and advances.
TL;DR: The photoacoustic tomography (PAT) is an emerging imaging modality that shows great potential for preclinical research and clinical practice as mentioned in this paper, which is based on the acoustic detection of optical absorption from either endogenous chromophores, such as oxy-hemoglobin and deoxy-hemoglobaloglobin, or exogenous contrast agents such as organic dyes and nanoparticles.

Evaluating Clinical Accuracy of Systems for Self-Monitoring of Blood Glucose
TL;DR: An error grid analysis (EGA) is developed, which describes the clinical accuracy of SMBG systems over the entire range of blood glucose values, taking into account the absolute value of the system-generated glucose value, the relative difference between these two values, and the clinical significance of this difference.

Photophysical processes in recent medical laser developments: A review
TL;DR: In this article, the physical processes that govern different microscopic mechanisms of laser-tissue interaction are discussed. And four distinct photophysical groups are considered in a general classification of these specific modes of interaction: continuous wave exposure, photothermal and photochemical transformations; and, for pulsed irradiations, the electromechanical and the photoablative processes.
