Aplysia CPEB Can Form Prion-like Multimers in Sensory Neurons that Contribute to Long-Term Facilitation
Kausik Si,Yun-Beom Choi,Erica White-Grindley,Amitabha Majumdar,Eric R. Kandel,Eric R. Kandel +5 more
TL;DR: It is found that, when exogenously expressed in sensory neurons, ApCPEB can form an amyloidogenic self-sustaining multimer, consistent with it being a prion-like protein.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proinsulin Is Refractory to Protein Fibrillation TOPOLOGICAL PROTECTION OF A PRECURSOR PROTEIN FROM CROSS-β ASSEMBLY
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that proinsulin is refractory to fibrillation under conditions that promote the rapid fibrilation of zinc-free insulin, and proposed that the connecting peptide constrains a large scale conformational change in the misfolded protein.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transgenerational epigenetic inheritance: from phenomena to molecular mechanisms.
TL;DR: Recent examples of brain related transgenerational epigenetic inheritance are reviewed and potential molecular mechanisms that could regulate how non-genetic information could be transmitted are delineated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Topics in prion cell biology.
TL;DR: This work has analysed the structure and phenotype of the aggregated conformers underlying the prion state, as well as the interactions regulating their formation and turnover within a dividing cell.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanistic Inferences From Analysis of Measurements of Protein Phase Transitions in Live Cells.
Ammon E. Posey,Kiersten M. Ruff,Jared M. Lalmansingh,Tejbir S. Kandola,Jeffrey J. Lange,Randal Halfmann,Rohit V. Pappu +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a supervised method was developed to obtain automated and accurate classifications of phase transitions quantified using the Distributed Amphifluoric Forster Resonance Energy Transfer (DAmFRET) assay.
