A comparison of the levels of hydroxamic acids in Aegilops speltoides and a hexaploid wheat and effects on Rhopalosiphum padi behaviour and fecundity.

TL;DR: It is found that a high HA producing B genome accession of the diploid ancestor of wheat, Aegilops speltoides, does have a negative impact on aphid host selection and substantially reduces nymph production.

Winter Wheat Resistance to the Grain Aphid Sitobion avenae (Fabr.) (Homoptera, Aphididae)

TL;DR: The field experiments were conducted during the summer of 1985 to determine the degree of winter wheat resistance to the grain aphid Sitobion avenae, and Asta, Grana, and Saga cultivars were generally more resistant than Dana, Liwilla, and Emika.

Barley yellow dwarf virus in winter barley in Ireland: yield loss and timing of autumn aphicides in controlling the MAV-strain

TL;DR: There was no advantage in applying additional aphicides throughout the winter and early spring, even in a season when aphids and virus were plentiful, but applying an aphicide in either December, January or February, to plots that had not received an earlier autumn aphicide treatment did prevent yield losses.
Journal ArticleDOI

A comparison of cereal-aphid migrations over Britain in the summers of 1979 and 1982

TL;DR: This study shows that suction-trap samples can be used to improve the prediction and understanding of pest outbreaks even when crop samples are limited or absent.
Journal ArticleDOI

Heat Stress Response of Wheat Cultivars with Different Ecological Adaptation

TL;DR: In the present study, heat treatment was carried out in five different phenological phases, from the first node detectable (DEV31) growth stage to 20 days after flowering, on four wheat genotypes with very different adaptation strategies, showing definitely contrasting tendencies both in grain number and grain weight.

A decimal code for the growth stages of cereals

TL;DR: The decimal code scale for indicating the growth stages of cereals as developed by the authors and published by Eucarpia is explained and described.
Journal ArticleDOI

The identification of growth stages in winter wheat with reference to the application of growth‐regulator herbicides

TL;DR: A measure of leaf sheath length might replace the ambiguous criteria presently used to judge the stages of winter wheat most tolerant of herbicides.
