TLDR
Assessment of the clonal distribution among 94 strains of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from cow's milk, raw cheese, and a milking machine in 12 dairy farms in northeast Brazil found that appropriate antibiotic therapy and specific immunization can be used for the treatment and control of staphylitis mastitis.

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria: prevalence in food and inactivation by food-compatible compounds and plant extracts

TL;DR: This overview surveys and interprets much of the current knowledge of antibiotic (multidrug)-resistant bacteria in the food chain and the implications for microbial food safety and animal and human health.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in food and the prevalence in Brazil: a review.

TL;DR: Data was gathered to verify MRSA incidence in the world but especially in Brazil in food samples, food handlers, food-producing animals, and food processing environments, showing that MRSA is easily found and in certain cases with high frequency, thus representing a potential risk to public health.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stress tolerance of Staphylococcus aureus with different antibiotic resistance profiles.

TL;DR: It was found that some S. aureus strains isolated from food were drug-resistant or even multi-drug resistant and that there was not a perfect match between resistance phenotypes and genotypes.

Staphylococcus aureus in Some Brazilian Dairy Industries: Changes of Contamination and Diversity

TL;DR: Despite the isolates being Methicillin-sensitive S. aureus (MSSA), the presence of CC1 clones in the processing environment, including some harboring enterotoxin encoding genes, is of concern and hygiene must have high priority to reduce contamination.

Numerical index of the discriminatory ability of typing systems: an application of Simpson's index of diversity.

TL;DR: An index of discrimination for typing methods is described, based on the probability of two unrelated strains being characterized as the same type, which may be used to compare typing methods and select the most discriminatory system.

Rapid identification of bacteria on the basis of polymerase chain reaction-amplified ribosomal DNA spacer polymorphisms.

TL;DR: In this paper, a unified set of primers and polymerase chain reaction conditions was developed to amplify spacer regions between the 16S and 23S genes in the prokaryotic rRNA genetic loci.
