TLDR
In this paper, the authors focused on determining whether malnutrition diagnosed by validated nutrition assessment tools such as the Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) or Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) is independently associated with poorer clinical outcomes in the ICU and if the use of nutrition screening tools demonstrate a similar association.
Abstract
Malnutrition is associated with poor clinical outcomes among hospitalized patients. However, studies linking malnutrition with poor clinical outcomes in the intensive care unit (ICU) often have conflicting findings due in part to the inappropriate diagnosis of malnutrition. We primarily aimed to determine whether malnutrition diagnosed by validated nutrition assessment tools such as the Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) or Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) is independently associated with poorer clinical outcomes in the ICU and if the use of nutrition screening tools demonstrate a similar association. PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, and Cochrane Library were systematically searched for eligible studies. Search terms included were synonyms of malnutrition, nutritional status, screening, assessment, and intensive care unit. Eligible studies were case-control or cohort studies that recruited adults in the ICU; conducted the SGA, MNA, or used nutrition screening tools before or within 48 hours of ICU admission; and ...

The Prognostic Accuracy Evaluation of mNUTRIC, APACHE II, SOFA, and SAPS 2 Scores for Mortality Prediction in Patients with Sepsis

TL;DR: The study showed that the mNUTRIC score was similar to severity scores (APACHE II, SOFA, SAPS 2) in mortality prediction and was the independent mortality predictor in patients with sepsis.

[Nutritional support in children with pneumonia on mechanical ventilation by short-peptide enteral nutrition formula].

TL;DR: The detection rates of malnutrition and nutritional risk in children with pneumonia on mechanical ventilation are relatively high and short-peptide enteral nutrition formula can help improve their treatment outcome and are more suitable for nutritional support in critically ill children on Mechanical ventilation.

Medical nutrition therapy for patients with malnutrition post-intensive care unit discharge: A case report of recovery from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

TL;DR: In this article, a case study demonstrated how medical nutrition therapy improved the nutrition status and quality of life for a patient who became severely malnourished after a prolonged hospitalization for COVID-19.

Nutritional risk screening (NRS 2002): a new method based on an analysis of controlled clinical trials.

TL;DR: The screening system appears to be able to distinguish between trials with a positive effect vs no effect, and it can therefore probably also identify patients who are likely to benefit from nutritional support.

Screening for Undernutrition in Geriatric Practice Developing the Short-Form Mini-Nutritional Assessment (MNA-SF)

TL;DR: The Mini-Nutritional Assessment can identify persons with undernutrition and can be used in a two-step screening process in which persons, identified as "at risk" on the MNA-SF, would receive additional assessment to confirm the diagnosis and plan interventions.

The impact of malnutrition on morbidity, mortality, length of hospital stay and costs evaluated through a multivariate model analysis.

TL;DR: It was concluded that malnutrition, as analyzed by a multivariate logistic regression model, is an independent risk factor impacting on higher complications and increased mortality, length of hospital stay and costs.
