Automotive exhaust catalysis

TLDR
The general trend has been one of increasingly complex catalyst formulations in response to increasingly stringent emission standards as discussed by the authors, but with greater emphasis on optimizing catalyst formulations for lean-burn applications and reducing catalyst cost and complexity without sacrificing performance.

Oxidation behavior of reduced (CeO2)1−x-(ZrO2)x (x = 0, 0.2, 0.5) catalysts

TL;DR: In this article, a combination of TPR and O 2 pulse injection methods was used to investigate the oxidization properties of CeO 2 -ZrO 2 (1/1) catalysts.

Phase & Morphology Engineered Surface Reducibility of MnO2 Nano-heterostructures: Implications on Catalytic Activity towards CO Oxidation

TL;DR: In this paper, a stringent control over the phase and morphology of catalytically active MnO2 supports is proposed to achieve a higher availability of lattice oxygen for the α-MnO2 phase, compared to that of β-MmO2.

Ceria-terbia solid solution nanobelts with high catalytic activities for CO oxidation.

TL;DR: Ceria-terbia solid solution nanobelts were prepared by an electrochemical route and tested as catalysts of high activity for CO oxidation and were found to be good catalysts for oxidation of CO.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cluster size dependence of Pt core-level shifts for mass-selected Pt clusters on TiO2(110) surfaces

TL;DR: Isomura et al. as mentioned in this paper examined the core-level shifts of mass-selected platinum clusters on TiO2(110) surfaces under soft landing conditions, and their core levels were investigated by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.

Rh-Loaded CeO2-ZrO2 Solid-Solutions as Highly Efficient Oxygen Exchangers: Dependence of the Reduction Behavior and the Oxygen Storage Capacity on the Structural-Properties

TL;DR: In this paper, it is shown that incorporation of ZrO2 into a solid solution with CeO2 strongly promotes bulk reduction of the Rh-loaded solid solutions in comparison to a Rh/CeO2 sample.

Twenty-five years after introduction of automotive catalysts: what next?

TL;DR: The union of catalysts and the automobile has been one of the greatest successes of heterogeneous catalysis over the last 25 years as mentioned in this paper, and there will be continued research and development activity focused also on downstream applications (i.e. exhaust emission aftertreatment), especially for fuelefficient, lean-burn vehicles, both diesel and spark-ignited.
