TLDR
The general trend has been one of increasingly complex catalyst formulations in response to increasingly stringent emission standards as discussed by the authors, but with greater emphasis on optimizing catalyst formulations for lean-burn applications and reducing catalyst cost and complexity without sacrificing performance.About:

Prince,Stéphanie Bruyère,Valérie Potin,Francesc Illas,Vladimír Matolín,Jörg Libuda,Konstantin M. Neyman,Konstantin M. Neyman +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the Pt-CeO2-Nanotasche is stabilisiert, i.e., the Pt2+-Ionen are dispergierten Pt-Spezies with sehr hoher Stabilitat auf einer Katalysatoroberflache.

Size-dependent self-limiting oxidation of free palladium clusters.
TL;DR: Temperature-dependent gas phase ion trap experiments performed under multicollision conditions andplementary first-principles density functional theory simulations elucidate the details of the size-dependent bonding of oxygen to the small palladium clusters and are able to assign the pronounced occurrence of Pd(x)O4(+) complexes to a dissociatively chemisorbed bridging oxygen atomic structure which impedes the Chemisorption of further oxygen molecules.

Thermal Aging Behavior of Pt-only TWC Converters Under Simulated Exhaust Conditions: Effect of Rare Earths (CeO2, La2O3) and Alkali (Na) Modifiers
V. Matsouka,Michalis Konsolakis,Ioannis V. Yentekakis,A. Papavasiliou,A. Tsetsekou,Nikos Boukos +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the feasibility to design monometallic (Pt-only), low metal loading (0.1 wt% Pt) three-way catalytic converters (TWCs), with comparable catalytic efficiency and thermostability to that of commercial bimetallic Pt/Rh TWCs has been explored.

Physicochemical, Surface, and Catalytic Properties of Pure and Ceria-Doped Manganese/Alumina Catalysts
TL;DR: In this paper, pure and CeO2-doped Mn/Al mixed oxides were prepared by the wet impregnation method using finely powdered alumina, manganese and cerium nitrates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of perturbations in the exhaust gas composition on three-way catalyst light off
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the effect of transient exhaust gas composition on the light-off temperature of a commercial three-way catalytic converters (3WCC) by using a dynamic mathematical model for 3WCC simulation.

Catalysis by Ceria and Related Materials
TL;DR: The use of ceria-based catalysts in automotive catalysts was discussed in this paper, where the authors showed that the properties and thermal stability of Ceria-zirconia and related materials can be characterized using surface analysis techniques.

Rh-Loaded CeO2-ZrO2 Solid-Solutions as Highly Efficient Oxygen Exchangers: Dependence of the Reduction Behavior and the Oxygen Storage Capacity on the Structural-Properties
Paolo Fornasiero,R. Dimonte,Gangavarapu Ranga Rao,Jan Kašpar,S. Meriani,Alessandro Trovarelli,Mauro Graziani +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, it is shown that incorporation of ZrO2 into a solid solution with CeO2 strongly promotes bulk reduction of the Rh-loaded solid solutions in comparison to a Rh/CeO2 sample.

Nitric oxide catalysis in automotive exhaust systems
TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the literature on NO catalysis is presented, focusing on the threeway catalyst system which simultaneously promotes the reduction of nitrogen oxides and the oxidation of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons.

Twenty-five years after introduction of automotive catalysts: what next?
TL;DR: The union of catalysts and the automobile has been one of the greatest successes of heterogeneous catalysis over the last 25 years as mentioned in this paper, and there will be continued research and development activity focused also on downstream applications (i.e. exhaust emission aftertreatment), especially for fuelefficient, lean-burn vehicles, both diesel and spark-ignited.
