Bioactive cyclobutane-containing alkaloids
TLDR
Research on novel natural cyclobutane-containing alkaloids and synthetic compounds isolated from terrestrial and marine species, confirmed to show antimicrobial, antibacterial, anticancer, and other activities are described.Abstract:
The present review describes research on novel natural cyclobutane-containing alkaloids and synthetic compounds isolated from terrestrial and marine species. More than 210 compounds have been confirmed to show antimicrobial, antibacterial, anticancer, and other activities. Structures, origins, biosynthesis, photodimerization, and biological activities of a selection of cyclobutane-containing alkaloids and selected synthethic analogs of natural alkaloids are reviewed.read more

Total Synthesis and Structural Revision of the Piperarborenines via Sequential Cyclobutane C - H Arylation
Will R. Gutekunst,Phil S. Baran +1 more
TL;DR: These syntheses feature a new preparation of cis-cyclobutane dicarboxylates from commercially available coumalate starting materials and a divergent approach to the controlled cis or trans installation of the two distinct aryl rings found in the natural products.

Microtubules as a target for anticancer drugs.
Mary Ann Jordan,Leslie Wilson +1 more
TL;DR: Highly dynamic mitotic-spindle microtubules are among the most successful targets for anticancer therapy, and it is now known that at lower concentrations, microtubule-targeted drugs can suppress micro Tubule dynamics without changingmicrotubule mass; this action leads to mitotic block and apoptosis.

Angiosperm phylogeny inferred from multiple genes as a tool for comparative biology
TL;DR: The results of parsimony analyses of DNA sequences of the plastid genes rbcL and atpB and the nuclear 18S rDNA for 560 species of angiosperms and seven non-flowering seed plants are reported and show a well-resolved and well-supported phylogenetic tree for the angios perms for use in comparative biology.
