Impact of major bleeding on 30-day mortality and clinical outcomes in patients with acute coronary syndromes: an analysis from the ACUITY trial

TL;DR: In this article, a logistic regression was used to determine predictors of 30-day major bleeding and mortality in patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) undergoing an early invasive strategy and showed that major bleeding rates in patients treated with heparin plus glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibition were higher versus bivalirudin monotherapy.

Impact of the Degree of Peri-Interventional Platelet Inhibition After Loading With Clopidogrel on Early Clinical Outcome of Elective Coronary Stent Placement

TL;DR: The level of platelet aggregation immediately before elective coronary stenting in patients pre-treated with a high loading dose of clopidogrel is correlated with early outcome after the procedure, and this is a significant independent predictor of 30-day MACE.
Journal ArticleDOI

Periprocedural bleeding and 1-year outcome after percutaneous coronary interventions: appropriateness of including bleeding as a component of a quadruple end point.

TL;DR: A strong relationship between the 30-day frequency of bleeding and 1-year mortality after PCI is demonstrated and supports the inclusion of periprocedural bleeding in a 30- day quadruple end point for the assessment of outcome after PCI.

Use of a monoclonal antibody directed against the platelet glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptor in high-risk coronary angioplasty.

TL;DR: Ischemic complications of coronary angioplasty and atherectomy were reduced with a monoclonal antibody directed against the platelet IIb/IIIa glycoprotein receptor, although the risk of bleeding was increased.

A national survey of stress reactions after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

TL;DR: After the September 11 terrorist attacks, Americans across the country, including children, had substantial symptoms of stress, and clinicians who practice in regions that are far from the recent attacks should be prepared to assist people with trauma-related Symptoms of stress.
Journal ArticleDOI

Randomised placebo-controlled and balloon-angioplasty-controlled trial to assess safety of coronary stenting with use of platelet glycoprotein-IIb/IIIa blockade.

TL;DR: Platelet glycoprotein-IIb/IIIa blockade with abciximab substantially improves the safety of coronary-stenting procedures and is safer than stenting without abcximab.

Clot-bound thrombin is protected from inhibition by heparin-antithrombin III but is susceptible to inactivation by antithrombin III-independent inhibitors.

TL;DR: Cl clot-bound thrombin is relatively protected from inhibition by heparin, and antithrombin III-independent inhibitors may be more effective than hepar in certain clinical settings.
