Removal of 17α-ethinylestradiol and caffeine from wastewater by UASB-Fenton coupled system.

TL;DR: UASB-Fenton coupled system allowed 80% of COD decrease, almost complete removal of drugs and the toxicity of samples on Vibrio fischeri was reduced from 73 to 30%, demonstrating that this coupled system is a promising and efficient system for pharmaceutical compounds removal from wastewater.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oil-water separation performance of aligned single walled carbon nanotubes membrane: A reactive molecular dynamics simulation study

TL;DR: In this paper, an aligned armchair carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-based membrane via reactive molecular dynamic (MD) simulation and density functional theory (DFT) calculations was used for separation of oil-water systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

A new foam-based method for the (bio)degradation of hydrocarbons in contaminated vadose zone.

TL;DR: An innovative foam-based method for Fenton reagents (FR) and bacteria delivery was assessed for the in situ remediation of a petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated unsaturated zone and provides important benefits, such as the confinement of harmful volatile hydrocarbons during Fenton treatments, the enhanced reagents delivery and the 30 % lower consumption of the latter.
Journal ArticleDOI

Heterogeneous Fenton catalyst derived from hydroxide sludge as an efficient and reusable catalyst for anthraquinone dye degradation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors have promoted the valorization of hydroxide sludge and converted it into activated carbon to serve as a carbon dioxide substitute for drinking water production stations.
Journal ArticleDOI

pH influence on 2,4,6-trichlorophenol degradation by ferrate(VI)

TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of pH on 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP) degradation by ferrate(VI) (Fe(VI)) was investigated comprehensively.

Science and technology for water purification in the coming decades

TL;DR: Some of the science and technology being developed to improve the disinfection and decontamination of water, as well as efforts to increase water supplies through the safe re-use of wastewater and efficient desalination of sea and brackish water are highlighted.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biodegradation aspects of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs): A review

TL;DR: The biodegradation of PAHs has been observed under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions and the rate can be enhanced by physical/chemical pretreatment of contaminated soil.
Journal ArticleDOI

A review of classic Fenton's peroxidation as an advanced oxidation technique.

TL;DR: This paper presents a literature review of the various Fenton reagent reactions which constitute the overall kinetic scheme with all possible side reactions and discusses the possibility of improving sludge dewaterability using Fenton's reagent.
Journal ArticleDOI

One Juliet and four Romeos: VeA and its methyltransferases.

TL;DR: Interaction of VeA with at least four methyltransferase proteins indicates a molecular hub function for VeA that questions: Is there a VeA supercomplex or is VeA part of a highly dynamic cellular control network with many different partners?
Journal ArticleDOI

Combination of Advanced Oxidation Processes and biological treatments for wastewater decontamination—A review

TL;DR: The main conclusions arrived at from the overall assessment of the literature are that more work needs to be done on degradation kinetics and reactor modeling of the combined process, and also dynamics of the initial attack on primary contaminants and intermediate species generation.
