Decentralized modal identification of structures using parallel factor decomposition and sparse blind source separation

TLDR
A novel decentralized modal identification method based on a multi-linear algebra tool called PARAllel FACtor (PARAFAC) decomposition enables source separation in wavelet packet coefficients with considerable mode mixing, thereby relaxing the conditions to generate over-complete bases, thus reducing the computational burden.

Blind identification of full-field vibration modes from video measurements with phase-based video motion magnification

TL;DR: In this article, a multi-scale image processing method is applied on the frames of the video of a vibrating structure to extract the local pixel phases that encode local structural vibration, establishing a full-field spatio-temporal motion matrix.

A review of output-only structural mode identification literature employing blind source separation methods

TL;DR: This paper reviews over hundred articles related to the application of BSS and their variants to output-only modal identification and concludes with possible future trends in this area.
Journal ArticleDOI

Blind identification of full-field vibration modes of output-only structures from uniformly-sampled, possibly temporally-aliased (sub-Nyquist), video measurements

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method to estimate the modal frequencies and damping ratios by using the spatio-temporal uncoupling property of modal expansion of structural vibration responses, which enables a direct modal decoupling of the temporally-aliased vibration measurements.

Vibration energy harvesting based monitoring of an operational bridge undergoing forced vibration and train passage

TL;DR: This paper presents the first experimental deployment of piezoelectric vibration energy harvesting devices for monitoring a full-scale bridge undergoing forced dynamic vibrations under operational conditions using energy harvesting signatures against time.

Estimation of modal parameters using the sparse component analysis based underdetermined blind source separation

TL;DR: The underdetermined blind source separation method based on sparse component analysis in the time–frequency domain is introduced to estimate the modal parameters in this study and the extracted results evidently show the thermal effect on themodal parameters.

Analysis of individual differences in multidimensional scaling via an n-way generalization of 'eckart-young' decomposition

TL;DR: In this paper, an individual differences model for multidimensional scaling is outlined in which individuals are assumed differentially to weight the several dimensions of a common "psychological space" and a corresponding method of analyzing similarities data is proposed, involving a generalization of Eckart-Young analysis to decomposition of three-way (or higher-way) tables.

Foundations of the PARAFAC procedure: Models and conditions for an "explanatory" multi-model factor analysis

TL;DR: It is shown that an extension of Cattell's principle of rotation to Proportional Profiles (PP) offers a basis for determining explanatory factors for three-way or higher order multi-mode data.

A blind source separation technique using second-order statistics

TL;DR: A new source separation technique exploiting the time coherence of the source signals is introduced, which relies only on stationary second-order statistics that are based on a joint diagonalization of a set of covariance matrices.
