TLDR
In this paper, the authors summarized priority areas of research regarding epidemiology, clinical management, and public health regarding type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and TB, and investigated the cost-effectiveness of screening methods for DM among patients newly diagnosed with TB.About:

Risk factors for extrapulmonary dissemination of tuberculosis and associated mortality during treatment for extrapulmonary tuberculosis
TL;DR: Age ≥45 years, HIV+ status, excessive alcohol use within the past 12 months, ESRD, and abnormal chest radiographs were independent risk factors for EPTB mortality during TB treatment, and epidemiologic risk factors identified by multivariate analyses provide new information that may be useful to health professionals in managing patients with E PTB.

TL;DR: It is shown that DM prevalence and clinical characteristics of TB-DM vary considerably between countries, underlining the need to improve strategies for better clinical management of combined TB and DM.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemiological, clinical and mechanistic perspectives of tuberculosis in older people.
TL;DR: In this article, the cellular and molecular perturbations interact inextricably with the immunological dysfunction biophysiologically inherent to ageing to contribute to the development of TB in the geriatric population and worsen the disease outcomes.

Persistent inflammation during anti-tuberculosis treatment with diabetes comorbidity.

TL;DR: Principal component analysis revealed virtually complete separation of TBDM from TB individuals in both cohorts at baseline, with hyper-inflammation in TBDM that continued through treatment completion at six months, and substantial convergence of mediator levels between groups within the India cohort.

Convergence of non-communicable diseases and tuberculosis: a two-way street?

TL;DR: There is sufficient empirical evidence to justify a greater research emphasis on the syndemic interaction between TB and NCD, and biomedical hypotheses, findings from animal models, and emerging epidemiologic data related to the progression of DM, CLD and CVD during and after active TB disease are summarized.

Standards of medical care in diabetes.
TL;DR: I would like to take issue with the use of the phrase “standards of medical care in diabetes,” which is used to describe diabetes care standards, in the recently updated and circulatedADA 2006 Clinical Practice Recommendations.

Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes: Response to Power
TL;DR: The title “Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes” was chosen because in the view of the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the recommendations represent what the association considers the “standards” for the care of patients with diabetes.

Gestational diabetes and the incidence of type 2 diabetes: a systematic review.
TL;DR: Differences in rates of progression between ethnic groups was reduced by adjustment for various lengths of follow-up and testing rates, so that women appeared to progress to type 2 diabetes at similar rates after a diagnosis of GDM.

Use and misuse of population attributable fractions.
TL;DR: Computational and conceptual issues relevant to population attributable fraction estimation that are infrequently discussed elsewhere are considered, with illustrations from the breast cancer literature.

Globalization of Diabetes: The role of diet, lifestyle, and genes
TL;DR: Interactions between Westernized diet and lifestyle and genetic background may accelerate the growth of diabetes in the context of rapid nutrition transition, and primary prevention through promotion of a healthy diet andifestyle should be a global public policy priority.
