Abstract
We apply parton-model concepts to the ''soft'' (small-momentum- transfer) processes which make up the majority of the hadronic total cross section. Diffraction is calculated as the shadow of these soft processes. We obtain an attractive picture of the essential features of total, elastic, and diffractive-inelastic scattering. In particular, the rather large cross section for inelastic diffraction, which is observed experimentally, results from fluctuations in the distribution of the wee partons which initiate interactions. These fluctuations lead to diffractive production by the mechanism of Good and Walker. The observed peripheral character of diffraction as a function of impact parameter, the absence of a forward dip in dsigma/dt dm/sup 2/, the correct integrated cross section, and the correct small-t slope of diffraction all follow naturally in our approach.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a microscopic approach to large cross section physics at high energy, based on the leading logarithmic approximation of perturbative QCD and the reggeon diagram technique.

Evidence of Strong Proton Shape Fluctuations from Incoherent Diffraction.

TL;DR: Measurements of exclusive vector meson production at high energy provide evidence for strong geometric fluctuations of the proton, and will allow detailed future measurements of the incoherent cross section to tightly constrain the fluctuating geometry of the Proton as a function of the parton momentum fraction x.

Leading twist nuclear shadowing phenomena in hard processes with nuclei

TL;DR: The leading twist theory of nuclear shadowing was proposed in this article, which is based on the combination of the Gribov-Glauber theory, QCD factorization theorems, and the HERA QCD analysis of diffraction in lepton-proton deep inelastic scattering (DIS).

Renormalization group evolution of multi-gluon correlators in high energy QCD

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluate the functional Langevin equation that describes the Balitsky-JIMWLK hierarchy of renormalization group equations for the x evolution of multi-point Wilson line correlators and compare the results to mean-field Gaussian and large Nc approximations.

Nonperturbative effects in gluon radiation and photoproduction of quark pairs

TL;DR: In this article, the authors introduced a nonperturbative interaction for light-cone fluctuations containing quarks and gluons, which was shown to suppress gluon radiation at small transverse momenta compared to perturbative calculations.

Photon-hadron Interactions

TL;DR: Feynman as mentioned in this paper proposed the Parton Model and showed that it can be used to explain low-energy photon reactions at extreme energies and the properties of operators in momentum space.
