This paper discus how optical signal processing can play a role in photonic packet routing and discusses ultrafast wavelength switching at 160 Gbit/s in a single semiconductor optical amplifier.Abstract:
Optical packet switching has received considerable attention over the last few years. In this paper we discus how optical signal processing can play a role in photonic packet routing. Two examples are given. Firstly we discuss ultrafast wavelength switching at 160 Gbit/s in a single semiconductor optical amplifier. Secondly, an integrated photonic flip-flop is discussed. Finally a discussion is given about potential opportunities and limitations of optics in packet switched nodes.read more

Subpicosecond gain dynamics in InGaAsP optical amplifiers: Experiment and theory
TL;DR: In this paper, pump-probe measurements on bulk InGaAsP optical amplifiers are compared with numerical calculations based on simplified density matrix equations, and the gain dynamics is well described by the combined effect of carrier heating, spectral hole burning, and two-photon absorption.
