TLDR
The types of discontinuity which can occur in a magnetohydrodynamic fluid with anistotropic pressure are discussed in this article, and rules are given for the identification of the type of discontinuities together with equations to determine their orientation and velocity.

On the theory of symmetric MHD equilibria with anisotropic pressure

TL;DR: In this article, the theory of symmetric MHD equilibria with anisotropic pressure was discussed, where the pressure tensor can be split into components along and across the magnetic field.

Jump conditions at fast shocks in an anisotropic magnetized plasma

TL;DR: In this article, the variations of the magnetic field strength and the plasma parameters across a fast shock as functions of upstream Alfven Mach numbers and pressure anisotropy downstream of the shock were investigated.

A reconnection model describing erosion of the magnetopause and the associated bow shock motion

TL;DR: In this article, a new theoretical approach to study erosion at the magnetopause on the basis of time-dependent reconnection is presented, which calculates the earthward motion of the magnetosphere resulting from each reconnection pulse, together with the associated bow shock motion.
Journal ArticleDOI

World line dependence of current sheet normals inferred by minimum variance techniques

TL;DR: In this paper, the reconstruction of current sheet geometry is investigated as a function of paths through an oblique two-dimensional (2D) hybrid supercritical shock and two fluid simulations of the magnetopause with no, small, and large guide fields, respectively.

Discontinuities in the solar wind

TL;DR: In this paper, the existence of a field of MHD discontinuities in the solar wind should make possible the generation of ensembles of shocks and contact surfaces, which can be treated as shock wave or contact surface.

Micro-scale structures in the interplanetary medium

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe and analyze the following micro-scale structures which were found in combined interplanetary magnetic field and plasma data obtained by the deep-space probe Pioneer-6: (1) Several types of simultaneous discontinuities in the magnetic fields and plasma parameters; (2) at least one clear example of a transitional region (D-sheet) associated with a plasma discontinuity; (3) other D-sheets which give evidence of magnetic field annihilation; inhomogeneous isothermal regions in which the square of the magnetic-field intensity is proportional to the
