Interactions among waves, current, and mud: Numerical and laboratory studies

TL;DR: In this article, an eddy viscosity model for wave and current is proposed in order to close the equations of wave motion or of current motion in a combined flow, respectively, and equations of mud transport are derived based on the visco-elastic properties of mud.

Dynamic response of density-stratified fluid in a submarine rectangular trench

TL;DR: In this paper, a three-dimensional numerical model Truchas is employed to trace the free surface and the interfacial motion using the volume of fluid method, and a CCD camera is used to validate the model.

Long-Period Oscillations in a Harbour with Fluid Mud Bottom

TL;DR: In this paper, a set of Boussinesq-type equations based on weakly nonlinear, dispersive and viscous wave theories is developed for coupled two-layer density stratified system, incorporating the boundary layer corrections for the interfacial shear and mud viscosity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stability of mud-water interface under long surface waves

TL;DR: In this article, the critical conditions for the K-H instability to occur for the mud-water interface via linear stability analysis and numerical simulation were investigated, and it was found that the Stokes boundary layer thickness induced by a surface wave must be large enough to penetrate the fluid mud layer and produce a strong shear at the interface.

An Introduction To Rheology

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the importance of non-linearity solids and liquids rheology is a difficult subject for rheological research, and present some demonstrations of high extensional viscosity behaviour.

Waves over Soft Muds: A Two-Layer Fluid Model

TL;DR: In this article, two complete models are presented, each valid for different lower (mud) layer depths, and a boundary layer model is presented as an appendix for the case where the lower layer is thick with respect to the boundary layer.

On standing internal gravity waves of finite amplitude

TL;DR: In this paper, two-dimensional internal gravity waves in a rectangular container are examined theoretically and experimentally in fluids which contain a single density discontinuity and fluids in which the density gradient is everywhere continuous.
