TLDR
Comparative experiments with serotypes 1, 5, 7, and 12 revealed genetically controlled differences in penetration, and an electron microscopic analysis revealed that penetration of adenovirus type 1 followed the pattern observed with type 5 while penetration of type 12 was similar to that of adanovirus 7.

Stepwise dismantling of adenovirus 2 during entry into cells

TL;DR: The results show that incoming adenovirus type 2 particles undergo a stepwise disassembly program necessary to allow progress of the virus in the entry pathway and release of the genome into the nucleus.

Update on adenovirus and its vectors.

TL;DR: The paper was originally published in Journal of General Virology (2000), 81, 2573–2604 and has been republished here with edits since then.

Microtubule-dependent Plus- and Minus End–directed Motilities Are Competing Processes for Nuclear Targeting of Adenovirus

TL;DR: The results show that native or taxol-stabilized microtubules (MTs) support alternating minus- and plus end–directed movements of cytosolic virus with elementary speeds up to 2.6 μm/s, which implies that a single cytOSolic Ad particle engages with two types of MT-dependent motor activities, the minus end– directed cytoplasmic dynein and an unknown plus end- directed activity.

Composition for introducing nucleic acid complexes into higher eucaryotic cells

TL;DR: A composition for the transfection of higher eucaryotic cells, comprising complexes of nucleic acid, a substance having an affinity for nucleic acids and optionally an internalizing factor, contains an endosomolytic agent, e.g. a virus or virus component, which may be conjugated as mentioned in this paper.

Adenovirus endocytosis

TL;DR: In this article, the uptake process of human adenovirus (Ad) type 2 and 5 and integrate it into the cell biology of endocytosis are surveyed. But, the authors do not consider the effect of CAR on the endocytic trafficking.

Protein Measurement with the Folin Phenol Reagent

TL;DR: Procedures are described for measuring protein in solution or after precipitation with acids or other agents, and for the determination of as little as 0.2 gamma of protein.
Journal ArticleDOI

A study of the conditions and mechanism of the diphenylamine reaction for the colorimetric estimation of deoxyribonucleic acid

TL;DR: The present study arose from the observation that a more intense colour was sometimes produced if, instead of being heated at 1000 for 10 min., the reaction mixture was allowed to stand overnight at room temperature.

A negative staining method for high resolution electron microscopy of viruses.

TL;DR: A simple technique has been developed for the study of the external form and structure of virus particles by mixing virus preparations with 1% phosphotungstic acid adjusted to pH 7.5 and spraying directly onto electron microscope supporting films made from evaporated carbon.

RNA metabolism in the HeLa cell nucleus.

TL;DR: Experiments in which radioactive label is chased shows that there is no high molecular weight RNA permanently associated with the nucleus, and all of the early precursors to cytoplasmic ribosomal RNA are contained in the nuclear fraction.

Microtubular crystals in mammalian cells

TL;DR: Periwinkle alkaloids in very low concentrations cause an intracytoplasmic sequestration of microtubule protein in the form of symmetrical, microtubular bodies; neither colchicine nor puromycin prevents the formation of these bodies; the latter compound retards crystal growth.
