Emission factors of particulate and gaseous compounds from a large cargo vessel operated under real-world conditions.

TLDR
To investigate the impacts of engine type, fuel, and operating conditions on emissions, measurements were conducted under actual operating conditions, including at-berth, maneuvering, and cruising at different engine loads to minimize uncertainty in the emission factors used in ship emissions calculations.

A review on regulations, current status, effects and reduction strategies of emissions for marine diesel engines

TL;DR: In this article, a review of emission regulations and emission factors (EFs), environmental effects and available emission reduction solutions for marine diesel engines is presented, which shows that the integrated multi-pollutant treatment for ship emissions holds great promise.

Intermediate Volatility Organic Compound Emissions from a Large Cargo Vessel Operated under Real-World Conditions

TL;DR: Fuel type was the dominant determinant of ship IVOC emissions, IVOC volatility distributions, and SOA production, and the ship emitted more IVOC mass, produced higher proportions of volatile organic components, and produced more SOA mass when fueled with LSF than whenfueled with HSF.

Changes in the SO2 Level and PM2.5 Components in Shanghai Driven by Implementing the Ship Emission Control Policy.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of domestic emission control area (DECA) policy on ambient SO2 and particle components in Shanghai was investigated. But the authors focused on single particle analysis and SO2 measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of PM2.5-bound polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and their derivatives (nitro-and oxy-PAHs) emissions from two ship engines under different operating conditions.

TL;DR: The emission factors (EFs) of PACs under maneuvering was much higher than those under cruising, which might be due to the engine load, fuel consumption, and secondary reactions, and highlight the importance of quantifying and monitoring ship emissions in close proximity to port area.

The IMPROVE_A Temperature Protocol for Thermal/Optical Carbon Analysis: Maintaining Consistency with a Long-Term Database

TL;DR: A method to detect small quantities of O2 in the pure He carrier gas shows that O2 levels above 100 ppmv also affect the comparability of thermal carbon fractions but have little effect on the IMPROVE_TOR split between OC and EC.

Characterisation of particulate matter and gaseous emissions from a large ship diesel engine

TL;DR: In this paper, a ship diesel engine using heavy fuel oil (HFO) onboard a large cargo vessel was investigated along with the emitted particulate matter (PM) properties related to environmental and health impacts.

Revised Algorithm for Estimating Light Extinction from IMPROVE Particle Speciation Data

TL;DR: A revised algorithm was developed that is more consistent with the recent atmospheric aerosol literature and reduces bias for high and low light extinction extremes and reduces the underprediction of high haze periods and the overpredictions of low haze periods compared with the performance of the original algorithm.
