TLDR
The presence of both direction and speed selectivity in MT of the macaque suggests that this area is more specialized for the analysis of visual motion than has been previously recognized.
Abstract
1. Recordings were made from single units in the middle temporal visual area (MT) of anesthetized, paralyzed macaque monkeys. A computer-driven stimulator was used to make quantitative tests of sel...

Direction selectivity in the middle lateral and lateral (ML and L) visual areas in the California ground squirrel.

TL;DR: A directional anisotropy for motion towards the vertical meridian was found in ML and L cells, suggesting that these areas may be involved in detecting predators and other moving objects coming from the periphery, rather than in processing flow fields caused by forward locomotion, for which a centrifugal bias might be expected.

Smooth pursuit eye movements and optokinetic nystagmus.

TL;DR: This chapter will consider the general characteristics and the anatomical and physiological basis of smooth pursuit eye movements, and disorders, particularly those seen in clinical investigations.

Vector subtraction using visual and extraretinal motion signals: a new look at efference copy and corollary discharge theories.

TL;DR: This model shows that the net result of applying an 'efference copy/corollary discharge signal' in the form of a cosine distribution is a motion signal that is equivalent to that produced by vector subtraction, providing a means of 'canceling' the effect of eye movements.

Filling-in the details on perceptual fading

TL;DR: Targets defined by different visual attributes were used to explore the importance of target properties in determining the time-course of fading, and took longer to fade than those defined by a difference of motion.

Velocity perception and discrimination: Relation to temporal mechanisms

TL;DR: Measurements of three aspects of velocity detection are presented: the upper threshold of motion (UTM), perceived velocity and velocity discrimination and these findings are discussed in relation to current models of motion perception.

Receptive fields and functional architecture of monkey striate cortex

TL;DR: The striate cortex was studied in lightly anaesthetized macaque and spider monkeys by recording extracellularly from single units and stimulating the retinas with spots or patterns of light, with response properties very similar to those previously described in the cat.

Silver Staining of Myelin by Means of Physical Development

TL;DR: For staining myelin with silver a physical development technique has been devised that can render visible the thinnest fibers in various animal species, including fishes and reptiles, even in the early phase of myelination and may be applied to both frozen and embedded materials.
