Functional properties of neurons in middle temporal visual area of the macaque monkey. I. Selectivity for stimulus direction, speed, and orientation

TLDR
The presence of both direction and speed selectivity in MT of the macaque suggests that this area is more specialized for the analysis of visual motion than has been previously recognized.
Abstract
1. Recordings were made from single units in the middle temporal visual area (MT) of anesthetized, paralyzed macaque monkeys. A computer-driven stimulator was used to make quantitative tests of sel...

Transcranial magnetic stimulation.

TL;DR: By modifying brain functions, with after-effects lasting beyond the time of stimulation, rTMS opens exciting perspectives for therapeutic applications, especially in the domain of depression and chronic pain syndromes.

Velocity discrimination in central and peripheral visual field

TL;DR: In this paper, just-noticeable differences (jnd's) in velocity were measured as a function of reference velocity for central and peripheral vision and the velocity discrimination curves plotting jnd's in velocity, expressed as Weber fractions, were U shaped at all eccentricities.

Visually cued action timing in the primary visual cortex

TL;DR: It is shown that activity generated by the primary visual cortex (V1) embodies the target interval and may instruct the decision to time the action on a trial-by-trial basis and a spiking neuronal model of local recurrent connections in V1 produces neural responses that predict and drive the timing of future actions.

Inferior frontal eye field projections to the pursuit-related dorsolateral pontine nucleus and middle temporal area (MT) in the monkey.

TL;DR: The correlated projections of the inferior FEF to the DLPN, MT area, and SS may explain its reported role in smooth pursuit, in addition to its well-established role in the production of voluntary purposeful saccadic eye movements.

The role of V5/MT+ in the control of catching movements: an rTMS study.

TL;DR: This study tested the prediction that rTMS over V5/MT+ of the left hemisphere while healthy subjects were either performing a catching or a reaching task, and found that V5-TMS reduced the speed of the catching but not the reaching response, and confirmed that V 5/ MT+ is not only involved in perceptual but also in visuomotor tasks.

Receptive fields and functional architecture of monkey striate cortex

TL;DR: The striate cortex was studied in lightly anaesthetized macaque and spider monkeys by recording extracellularly from single units and stimulating the retinas with spots or patterns of light, with response properties very similar to those previously described in the cat.

Silver Staining of Myelin by Means of Physical Development

TL;DR: For staining myelin with silver a physical development technique has been devised that can render visible the thinnest fibers in various animal species, including fishes and reptiles, even in the early phase of myelination and may be applied to both frozen and embedded materials.
