TLDR
In this article, a simple relation exists between the retention index of a compound on a non-polar stationary phase and its boiling point, which is defined as the ratio of the boiling point of the compound to its retention index.
Abstract
For the characterization of organic substances in gas chromatography a number termed «retention index» is proposed. A simple relation exists between the retention index of a compound on a non-polar stationary phase and its boiling point.

Radical Scavenging Activity and Chemical Composition of Methanolic Extract from Arum dioscoridis SM. var. dioscoridis and Determination of Its Mineral and Trace Elements

TL;DR: A. dioscoridis is a member of Arum L. genus and belonging to Araceae family was extensively analyzed in detail in this paper, where the DPPH free radical scavenging activity analysis was performed and 16 compounds were detected in methanolic extract using GC-MS.
Journal ArticleDOI

Standardisation in reversed-phase HPLC

TL;DR: A number of systems have been suggested based on internal standards or retention indexes as mentioned in this paper, and these methods can also provide a basis for the classification of columns and eluents, which can also be used for column classification.

Identification of terpenoids from Ephedra combining with accurate mass and in-silico retention indices

TL;DR: A quantitative structure-retention relationship (QSRR) model with good predictive ability was established and the in-silico RI was applied in qualitative identification combined with NIST MS library search results and two candidate compounds were found to have a moderate matching between the predicted RI values against the experimentally determined values.

Use of M-series retention index standards in the identification of trichothecenes by electron impact mass spectrometry.

TL;DR: A method for the reliable identification of a series of trichothecenes as their trifluoroacetate esters in porridge flake samples is described and offers an independent identification method by which the reliability of the identification can be improved.

Gas chromatographic retention behavior of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and alkyl-substituted PAHs on two stationary phases of different selectivity

TL;DR: Retention indices (I) for 45 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and 63 methyl-substituted PAHs were determined by gas chromatography – mass spectrometry (GC-MS) using two different stationary phases: a Rxi-PAH phase (a “higher phenyl-content stationary phase”) and a 50% liquid crystalline dimethylpolysiloxane phase.

Gas-liquid partition chromatography: the separation and micro-estimation of volatile fatty acids from formic acid to dodecanoic acid

TL;DR: Modifications necessary to the theory of Martin & Synge (1941) to allow for the compressibility of the mobile phase are presented and the application of the gas-liquid partition chromatogram to the separation of volatile fatty acids is described.

Gas-liquid partition chromatography: the separation of volatile aliphatic amines and of the homologues of pyridine.

TL;DR: Analysis of the volatile amines present in Chenopodium vulvaria L. shows the presence of only ammonia and trimethylamine, compared with standard mixture ofmono-, di and tri-methylamines, which indicates a low concentration of ammonia in the plant.
