Global wetland outlook: State of the world’s wetlands and their services to people 2018

TLDR
The Global Wetland Outlook as discussed by the authors provides a current overview of wetlands: their extent, trends, drivers of change and the responses needed to reverse the historical decline in wetland area and quality.
Abstract
Conservation and wise use of wetlands are vital for human livelihoods. The wide range of ecosystem services wetlands provide means that they lie at the heart of sustainable development. Yet policy and decision-makers often underestimate the value of their benefits to nature and humankind. Understanding these values and what is happening to wetlands is critical to ensuring their conservation and wise use. The Global Wetland Outlook, the flagship publication of the Ramsar Convention, provides a current overview of wetlands: their extent, trends, drivers of change and the responses needed to reverse the historical decline in wetland area and quality.

Assessment of the habitat conditions of a rare and endangered inland saline wetland community with Bolboschoenus maritimus (L.) Palla dominance in Southeastern Europe: the effects of physical–chemical water and soil properties

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared the habitats of the ascertained vegetation types in terms of 55 water and soil properties that influence their development, floristic composition and differentiation, and provided new data on the BMC distribution in this part of Europe and the first detailed information on its habitat conditions.

Wetland restoration in the East Dongting Lake effectively increased waterbird diversity by improving habitat quality

TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper evaluated whether wetland restoration could effectively improve waterbird diversity by comparing the differences in waterbird populations at the community, foraging guild, feeding habitat guild, and species levels in the restored and unrestored wetlands.

Assessing land-based mitigation implications for biodiversity

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reviewed the literature to assess twenty land-based mitigation options that are implemented in different mitigation pathways to comply with the Paris Agreement for their biodiversity impacts by using the Mean Species Abundance (MSALU) indicator for land use.
