TLDR
This data is the first to show that glyburide increases GLUT1 expression in syncytiotrophoblast MVM and BM in GDM pregnancies, and may promote transplacental glucose delivery contributing to fetal overgrowth.About:

Molecular pathways disrupted by gestational diabetes mellitus
TL;DR: A review of a number of candidate regulators of insulin resistance, inflammation and endothelial cell dysfunction in placenta, maternal adipose tissue and skeletal muscle that may represent potential sites for intervention that may translate to therapeutic interventions to prevent the development of Gestational diabetes mellitus.
Journal ArticleDOI
Placental Nutrient Transport in Gestational Diabetic Pregnancies
TL;DR: Improved knowledge and understanding of the alterations in placenta function that lead to pathological fetal growth will allow for development of new therapeutic interventions and treatments to improve pregnancy outcomes and lifelong health for the mother and her children.

TL;DR: It is believed that it is premature to embrace metformin as equivalent to insulin or superior to glyburide, and called for carefully controlled studies that optimize oral medication dosing according to their pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties in pregnancy, appropriately target medications based on individual patterns of hyperglycemia, and follow the offspring long-term for metabolic risk.

Use of Glucose, Glutamine, and Fatty Acids for Trophoblast Respiration in Lean Women, Women With Obesity, and Women With Gestational Diabetes
TL;DR: Utilization of glucose, fatty acids and glutamine changes in a sexually dimorphic manner with obesity and GDM predominantly with a male placenta with human syncytiotrophoblast utilizing glutamine for mitochondrial respiration.

Standards of medical care in diabetes.
TL;DR: I would like to take issue with the use of the phrase “standards of medical care in diabetes,” which is used to describe diabetes care standards, in the recently updated and circulatedADA 2006 Clinical Practice Recommendations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes: Response to Power
TL;DR: The title “Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes” was chosen because in the view of the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the recommendations represent what the association considers the “standards” for the care of patients with diabetes.

TL;DR: The Brazilian study provided evidence that adverse perinatal outcomes are associated with levels of maternal glycemia below those diagnostic of GDM by American Diabetes Association or World Health Organization criteria, however, the results were potentially confounded by the treatment of G DM.

Purification, Characterization, and in vitro Differentiation of Cytotrophoblasts from Human Term Placentae*
TL;DR: It is concluded that human cytotrophoblasts differentiate in culture and fuse to form functional syncytiotrophobic cells, similar to that of intact term placentae.
