Histological and Histochemical Methods: Theory and Practice

TLDR
This text presents the chemical and physical principles of fixation, staining and histochemistry, and offers a practical guide to the preparation of specimens for light microscopy and includes detailed practical instructions of the techniques used.
Abstract
This text presents the chemical and physical principles of fixation, staining and histochemistry. It assumes a basic level of chemical and biological knowledge, and requires little mathematical skill. The relations of chemical structures and reactions to fixation, tissue processing, staining, enzyme location, immunohistochemistry and other procedures are explained. For this edition the author has updated the text with the latest techniques and developments within the field, whilst retaining the details of the classic techniques still in use. The book offers a practical guide to the preparation of specimens for light microscopy and includes detailed practical instructions of the techniques used. Satellite cells, connective tissue fibroblasts and their interactions are crucial for muscle regeneration

TL;DR: Direct, genetic evidence is provided that satellite cells are required for muscle regeneration and resident fibroblasts are identified as a novel and vital component of the niche regulating satellite cell expansion during regeneration, and it is demonstrated that reciprocal interactions between fibroblast and satellite cells contribute significantly to efficient, effective muscle regeneration.

MicroCT for comparative morphology: simple staining methods allow high-contrast 3D imaging of diverse non-mineralized animal tissues

TL;DR: With very simple contrast staining, microCT imaging can produce quantitative, high-resolution, high -contrast volume images of animal soft tissues, without destroying the specimens and with possibilities of combining with other preparation and imaging methods.

Protocol for the MPTP mouse model of Parkinson's disease

TL;DR: This protocol describes the method of producing a reliable mouse model of Parkinson's disease using the neurotoxin 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) and calls for implementation of safety measures and for the acquisition of several pieces of equipment.

Nerve supply of the human knee and its functional importance

TL;DR: In 10 subjects with normal knees, an experimentally produced knee fusion was found to result in profound inhi bition of reflexly evoked quadriceps contraction, and the anatomical and physiologic data are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Macroporous nanowire nanoelectronic scaffolds for synthetic tissues

TL;DR: In this article, a 3D macroporous nanoelectronic scaffolds (nanoES) was used for 3D culture of neurons, cardiomyocytes and smooth muscle cells.
