Experimental modelling of the dynamic behaviour of a spar buoy wind turbine

TL;DR: In this paper, the dynamic response of a spar buoy offshore wind turbine, under different wind and wave conditions, was investigated using free vibration tests at the Danish Hydraulic Institute within the framework of the EU-Hydralab IV Integrated Infrastructure Initiative.
Journal ArticleDOI

A new facility for studying ocean-structure-seabed interactions: The O-Tube

TL;DR: The O-tube as mentioned in this paper is a fully enclosed flume in which ambient and storm-induced near-seabed flows are generated by a computer-controlled flow pump, and combined steady and oscillatory flow can be generated by alternating pump flow directions in a controlled manner.
Journal ArticleDOI

New model to determine forces at on-bottom slender pipelines

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed an extension of the Wake II type model, originally proposed for sinusoidal waves and currents, to the case of periodic or random waves, even with a superimposed current.
Journal ArticleDOI

Suction Removal of Sediment from between Armor Blocks. II: Waves

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied suction removal of sediment in steady currents and found that the onset of suction is governed by three parameters: (1) the sediment mobility number (based on the sediment size); (2) the ratio of sediment size to stone size, d∕D ; and (3) the Keulegan-Carpenter (KC) number, based on the armor block/stone size.
Journal ArticleDOI

On-Bottom Stability Analysis of Cylinders under Tsunami-Like Solitary Waves

TL;DR: In this paper, a series of 30 physical model tests was conducted in the wave channel of the University of Calabria in which a rigid circular cylinder was equipped with 12 pressure transducers placed along its external surface to determine the wave loads, with three wave gauges to record the surface elevation.

Wave forces on cylinders near plane boundary

TL;DR: In this article, potential flow theory predicts that the added mass of a cylinder near a plane boundary is independent of the direction of the flow and more than twice as large as that of the same cylinder far away from the boundary.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Determination of flow kinematics close to marine pipelines and their use in stability calculations

TL;DR: In this paper, a hydrodynamic description of the flow field around a cylinder resting on a plane boundary exposed to a regular oscillating flow field is developed, which can be used in on-bottom stability design of marine pipelines exposed to natural sea states.
Journal ArticleDOI

Wave Forces on Rigid Pipes Using Ocean Test Data

TL;DR: In this article, a test pipe rig was designed, fabricated, and then placed in the ocean, offshore from Honolulu, during four seasons of swell from Southern Hemisphere winter storms, data were obtained for the forces exerted on a 40-inch-long portion of the test pipe.
