In-plane-aligned membranes of carbon nanotubes

TLDR
In this paper, the first macroscopic objects comprised of highly aligned single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) were produced by producing a suspension of SWNT segments, introducing the suspension to a strong magnetic field to align the segments, and filtering the suspension in the magnetic field.

Pulmonary Toxicity of Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes in Mice 7 and 90 Days After Intratracheal Instillation

TL;DR: Results show that, for the test conditions described here and on an equal-weight basis, if carbon nanotubes reach the lungs, they are much more toxic than carbon black and can be more Toxic than quartz, which is considered a serious occupational health hazard in chronic inhalation exposures.

Dispersion and alignment of carbon nanotubes in polymer matrix: A review

TL;DR: In this article, the authors review recent progress and advances that have been made on: (a) dispersion of CNTs in a polymer matrix, including optimum blending, in situ polymerization and chemical functionalization; and (b) alignment of CNNs in the matrix enhanced by ex situ techniques, force and magnetic fields, electrospinning and liquid crystalline phase-induced methods.

A Review of Carbon Nanotube Toxicity and Assessment of Potential Occupational and Environmental Health Risks

TL;DR: It is speculated that exposure to combustion-generated MWCNTs in fine PM may play a significant role in air pollution-related cardiopulmonary diseases by pollutants, and the possible mechanisms of CNT pathogenesis in the lung and the impact of residual metals and other impurities on the toxicological manifestations are presented.

Crystalline Ropes of Metallic Carbon Nanotubes

TL;DR: X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy showed that fullerene single-wall nanotubes (SWNTs) are nearly uniform in diameter and that they self-organize into “ropes,” which consist of 100 to 500 SWNTs in a two-dimensional triangular lattice with a lattice constant of 17 angstroms.

Large-scale purification of single-wall carbon nanotubes: process, product, and characterization

TL;DR: A readily scalable purification process capable of handling single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) material in large batches, which should greatly facilitate investigation of material properties intrinsic to the nanotubes.
