Indentation fracture toughness behavior of FeCo-based bulk metallic glass intrinsic composites

TLDR
In this paper, the indentation fracture toughness of bulk metallic glass alloys in the partially crystalline composite state has been studied and corner cracking was observed on indentation in all the compositions above a certain critical load.
Abstract
Indentation fracture toughness of (Fe0·5Co0.5)69 − xNb6B25 + x (x = 0, 2, 4) bulk metallic glass alloys in the partially crystalline (intrinsic composite) state has been studied. Corner cracking was observed on indentation in all the compositions above a certain critical load. High hardness with values in excess of 1100HV was obtained for all the alloy compositions. Indentation fracture toughness measured through various empirical relations was found to be

Design of Fe-Based Bulk Metallic Glasses with Improved Wear Resistance

TL;DR: This work develops a series of novel Fe-based BMGs with improved wear resistance by altering the Cr and Mo contents in an Fe-Cr-Mo-C-B-Y glass-forming system, and clarifies the enhanced wear performance according to an effective indicator Kc3/4 Hv1/2 that correlates positively with the wear resistance of the samples.

Instrumented indentation of fused silica by Berkovich indenter

TL;DR: In this paper, the scaling relationships among indentation variables such as the maximum indentation displacement, contact depth, the ratio of load over contact stiffness, and the proportion of permanent displacement over the maximum displacement were investigated via Berkovich indentation of fused silica.

Strategy for improving the wear-resistance properties of detonation sprayed Fe-based amorphous coatings by cryogenic cycling treatment

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of CCT on microstructure, thermal properties, mechanical and tribological properties of Fe-based amorphous coatings were investigated and it was found that all the coated samples with CCT are still well bonded with the invar steel substrate, except for the surface of C60 appears local cracks.

Berkovich nanoindentation of borosilicate K9 glass

TL;DR: Instrumented indentation was used to investigate the proportional relationships among indentation variables such as the maximum indentation displacement, contact depth, ratio of load over contact stiffness, and the ratio of permanent displacement over the maximum displacement as discussed by the authors.

Determination of parameters of free volume model for Zr-based BMG via nanoindentation

TL;DR: In this paper, a pressure-dependent free volume model based on user material subroutine (UMAT) was proposed to model the mechanical behavior of Zr55Cu30Ag15 bulk metallic glass (BMG).

A Critical Evaluation of Indentation Techniques for Measuring Fracture Toughness: I, Direct Crack Measurements

TL;DR: In this paper, the application of indentation techniques to the evaluation of fracture toughness is examined critically, in two parts: the first part is focused on an approach which involves direct measurement of Vickers-produced radial cracks as a function of the indentation load.
