Isolation and characterization of a new Bacillus thuringiensis strain Lip harboring a new cry1Aa gene highly toxic to Ephestia kuehniella (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) larvae
Micheline El Khoury,Hichem Azzouz,Alain Chavanieu,Nouha Abdelmalak,Joël Chopineau,Mireille Kallassy Awad +5 more
TL;DR: The activation process using Ephestia kuehniella midgut juice showed that Lip Cry1A proteins were more stable in the presence of larval proteases, and indicated that Lip is an interesting strain that could be used as an alternative to the worldwide used strain HD1.

Effect of Bt-Transgenic Cotton on Soil Biological Health
TL;DR: Investigation of the effect of Bt-cotton (with Cry 1 Ac gene) on several microbial and biochemical indicators in fields under sub-humid tropical condition revealed a significant decline in actinobacteria, bacterial count as well as acid phosphatase, phytase, nitrogenase and dehydrogenase activities in Bt cotton compared with non-Bt cotton fields.

Bacillus thuringiensis isolates active against cockroaches and genes encoding cockroach-active toxins
TL;DR: In this article, a Bacillus thuringiensis microbe and genes encoding novel toxin proteins with activity against cockroaches are described. But the genes of the invention can be used to transform various hosts wherein the novel toxic proteins can be expressed.

Fate and Effects in Soil of Cry Proteins from Bacillus thuringiensis: Influence of Physicochemical and Biological Characteristics of Soil
TL;DR: Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is a useful alternative or supplement to synthetic chemical pesticides in agriculture, forest management, and control of mosquitoes and some other biting insects, but these products constitute a class of compounds that is seldom found in natural habitats and that primarily target "higher level" eukaryotes.

Establishment of a sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for specific detection of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) Cry1Ab toxin utilizing a monoclonal antibody produced with a novel hapten designed with molecular model.
Sa Dong,Xiao Zhang,Yuan Liu,Cunzheng Zhang,Yajing Xie,Jianfeng Zhong,Chongxin Xu,Xianjin Liu +7 more
TL;DR: A novel hapten polypeptide was synthesized and conjugated to keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) and a monoclonal antibody named 2C12, showing high affinity to Cry1Ab and having no cross reaction with Cry1Ac, was produced, providing a new approach for the production of high specific antibody.

Analysis of membrane and surface protein sequences with the hydrophobic moment plot.
TL;DR: An algorithm has been developed which identifies alpha-helices involved in the interactions of membrane proteins with lipid bilayers and which distinguishes them from helices in soluble proteins, and suggests four transmembrane helices and a surface-seeking helix in fragment B, the moiety known to have trans Membrane function.

TL;DR: The Gram-positive bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis produces proteins which are specifically toxic to a variety of insect species, and modified genes have been derived from bt2, a toxin gene cloned from one Bacillus strain.
