Modeling of the planetary ball-milling process: The case study of ceramic powders
M. Broseghini,Luca Gelisio,Mirco D'Incau,C.L. Azanza Ricardo,Nicola M. Pugno,Nicola M. Pugno,Nicola M. Pugno,Paolo Scardi +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, a numerical dynamic-mechanical model of a planetary ball-mill is developed to study the dependence of process efficiency on milling parameters like ball size and number, jar geometry and velocity of the revolving parts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Experiments and simulation of a net closing mechanism for tether-net capture of space debris
TL;DR: In this paper, a net closing mechanism is proposed to enable consistently successful debris capture via a simple and unobtrusive design by extending the main tether connecting the chaser spacecraft and the net vertex to the perimeter and around the perimeter of the net, allowing the tether to actuate closure in a manner similar to a cinch cord.

Physically consistent state estimation and system identification for contacts
Svetoslav Kolev,Emanuel Todorov +1 more
TL;DR: A solution is developed that solves both the problems of estimation and system identification jointly in the presence of discontinuous phenomena such as contacts and is posed as a joint optimization across both trajectory and model parameters and solved via Newton's method.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multibody dynamics driving GNC and system design in tethered nets for active debris removal
TL;DR: It is demonstrated, as a major novel contribution, how friction between the net and a tumbling target allows reducing its angular motion, stabilizing the system and allowing safer towing operations, giving engineering answers to most challenging open points to lead to a ready to flight solution.
Journal ArticleDOI
A continuous contact force model for impact analysis in multibody dynamics
TL;DR: In this article, a new continuous contact force model for contact problems with complex geometries and energy dissipations in multibody systems is presented and discussed in this work, and a hysteresis damping force is introduced for modeling the energy dissipation during the contact process.

A treatise on the analytical dynamics of particles and rigid bodies
TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive account of analytical dynamics is given, starting from first principles with kinematics before moving to equations of motion and specific and explicit methods for solving them, with chapters devoted to particle dyanmics, rigid bodies, vibration and dissipative systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coefficient of Restitution Interpreted as Damping in Vibroimpact
K. H. Hunt,F. R. E. Crossley +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the Kelvin-Voigt model is shown to be logically untenable, for it indicates that the bodies must exert tension on one another just before separating, and it denotes that the damping energy loss is proportional to the square of the impacting velocity, instead of to its cube.

Impact on Composite Structures
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present contact laws, contact dynamics, low velocity impact damage, residual properties, and ballistic impact on sandwich structures, as well as the impact on the sandwich structure.
