Weak Turbulence in the Magnetosphere: Formation of Whistler Wave Cavity by Nonlinear Scattering
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors considered the weak turbulence of whistler waves in the low-beta inner magnetosphere of the Earth and considered the effect of nonlinear induced scattering by thermal electrons provided the wave energy density is large enough.
Journal ArticleDOI
On the Nature and Origin of Bipolar Electrostatic Structures in the Earth's Bow Shock
Abstract: We present a statistical analysis of large-amplitude bipolar electrostatic structures measured by the Magnetospheric Multiscale spacecraft in the Earth's bow shock. The analysis is based on 371 large-amplitude bipolar structures collected in nine supercritical quasi-perpendicular Earth's bow shock crossings. We have found that 361 of the bipolar structures have negative electrostatic potentials, and only 10 structures (> 1, a parameter range typical of collisionless shocks in the heliosphere and various astrophysical environments. This analysis indicates that the original mechanism of electron surfing acceleration involving electron phase space holes is not likely to be efficient in realistic collisionless shocks.

Measurements of the Weak Warm Beam Instability
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the interaction of a weak warm beam with a broad spectrum of unstable waves on a traveling wave tube, and the wave-particle interactions are similar to those in beam-plasma systems, and are traditionally described by quasilinear theory.
Journal ArticleDOI
Theory and Computer Simulation of Whistler Turbulence and Velocity Space Diffusion in the Magnetospheric Plasma.
TL;DR: In this paper, the nonlinear development of unstable whistler waves and their interaction with electrons in an anisotropic, collisionless, magnetospheric-type plasma is investigated by theory and computer simulation experiments.

Nonlinear Phenomena Involving Dispersive Alfvén Waves
P.K. Shukla,L. Stenflo +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive review of linear and nonlinear dispersive Alfven waves in a magnetized plasma is presented, which can be used as a starting point for a discussion of the nonlinear effects produced by dispersive waves.
