Some nonlinear properties of drift‐cyclotron modes
TL;DR: In this paper, a nonlinear modification of the electrostatic ion response in the presence of a single drift cyclotron mode was calculated, and it was determined that a non-linear shift in the effective ion cycloton frequency can stabilize long-wavelength modes (kai∼N/κai, ω≊ω*≊Nωci, N = ± 1, ± 2,...) at fairly small amplitudes of electrostatic potential.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coherent production of energetic electrons in anomalous reflection and absorption of intense laser light
Wallace M. Manheimer,H. H. Klein +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the rate at which electrons are transported from the body to the non-thermal tail of the distribution function in the nonlinear stage of reflective and absorptive parametric instabilities is computed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Renormalized Compton scattering and nonlinear damping of collisionless drift waves
TL;DR: In this article, a kinetic theory for the nonlinear damping of collisionless drift waves in a shear-free magnetic field is presented, which reduces correctly to weak turbulence theory.
Journal ArticleDOI
Electrostatic turbulence and Debye-scale structures in collisionless shocks
R. Wang,Ivan Y. Vasko,F. S. Mozer,Stuart D. Bale,Anton Artemyev,Anton Artemyev,John W. Bonnell,Robert E. Ergun,Barbara L. Giles,Per-Arne Lindqvist,Christopher T. Russell,Robert J. Strangeway +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an analysis of more than one hundred large-amplitude bipolar electrostatic structures in a quasi-perpendicular supercritical Earth's bow shock crossing, measured by the Magnetospheric multiscale spacecraft, is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Theory of energetic alpha‐particle‐driven Alfvén wave turbulence
TL;DR: In this article, a theory of energetic alpha-particle-driven Alfven wave turbulence is presented, where the ion Compton scattering, while conserving total fluctuation energy, induces a nonlinear spectral shift away from linear alpha particle growth rate toward higher poloidal wave number kθ.
