Whistler side‐band growth due to nonlinear wave‐particle interaction
TL;DR: In this article, the distortion caused by a large-amplitude whistler (with wave normal parallel to the static magnetic field) on the energetic-electron velocity distribution of a predominantly cold magnetoplasma is derived analytically.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nonlinear evolution of the parametric instability: numerical predictions versus observations in the heliosphere
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the parametric decay of an elliptically polarized broadband Alfven wave as a source of decorrelation in the solar wind and found that, for 1, the final cross-helicity is 0.5, corresponding to a partial depletion of the initial correlation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Unified theory of the power spectrum of intermediate wavelength ionospheric electron density fluctuations
R. N. Sudan,M. J. Keskinen +1 more
TL;DR: An extension of the Kolmogorov theory of fluid turbulence is used to develop a unified treatment of the power spectrum of intermediate wavelength electron density fluctuations in the equatorial and high-latitude ionosphere as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Understanding relativistic electron losses with BARREL
TL;DR: The Balloon Array for RBSP Relativistic Electron Losses (BARREL) as mentioned in this paper is the first Living with a Star Geospace Mission of Opportunity (LOSMO) mission to understand the processes responsible for scattering relativistic electrons into Earth's atmosphere.
Journal ArticleDOI
Two-wave interaction in ideal magnetohydrodynamics
TL;DR: In this paper, the weakly nonlinear interaction of sound and linearly polarised Alfven waves propagating in the same direction along an applied magnetic field was studied, and it was found that a sound wave is coupled to the Alfven wave with double period and wavelength when the sound and Alfven speeds are equal.
